Finally got all the parts together to complete the 308 build, I already have a 308 so I wanted this one to be a bit different - it is, but not by much. I like the 308 simply because it works, is easy to shoot and ammo is affordable and readily available. I've experimented with lots of cartridges over the years - last count of reloading dies before I started selling them off was 33 - but these days I don't have as much time to handload and buying expensive and hard to find ammo - think Weatherby here - is no longer interesting to me.

Not that I'm totally stuck in the 1950s, I do have a 6.5 CM and 7PRC but those, along with my 308s as well as the classic 70s in the safe in 7mm RM, 270 Win and 30-06, I'm hard pressed to experiment with other.

About this DIY build:

Defiance Tenacity
Proof Carbon at 20"
Harvester EVO suppressor
TriggerTech
Hawkins Hunter M5
ARC rings
Leupold Mark 4HD (this is a diversion for me with FFP and MOA
McMillan stock, cause of the delay, stock arrived with wrong paint, sent back and waited again, this one is the Game Warden 2.0 Tall Grip

Range time tomorrow Lord and Mrs willing!

Nice rifle! Hard to go wrong with a .308. What contour is the Proof, and do you know what it weighed? I've been intrested in getting a Proof Sendero light 18" for my current .308 M700.

It's the Sendero contour, not sure if they make the Light Sendero anymore. Not sure what it weighs, it seems pretty heavy to me, I'll put it on the scale and see what it registers.

Correction, I was looking at pre-fits only, they do make Sendero Lights in their barrel blanks.

This is my fifth Proof Sendero (have four now, sold the 24" CM and replaced with a 22"). 308 (2), 6.5 CM and 7mm PRC, all shoot sub-MOA and some as good as .250".

This 6.5 CM is the best so far at .250 three shot at 100 yards.

Thanks for the info, I was really interested if Proof's listed weights were close for their barrels. I was just thinking of ordering the barrel and sending my M700 off to LRI to be worked over.

I shoot factory fodder these days, loading gear packed last move, never unpacked. Use plain ole Hornady 165 Spire Points for hunting, have some Hornady ELD 168 Match ammo for range work.
