Last year I put together an AR in 7.62x39. My local dealer's son wanted it more than me. I recently put another one together and put some rounds through it today. I bought the complete upper and put it on an S&W lower. I have put in a RRA Varmint Match trigger and mounted one of the Bushnell Elite 4500 1-4x24 scopes that many of us have bought. For the first AR, I used ASC mags. They were very hard to load, so with this one I'm using Duramags. They load very nicely. I put 40 rounds of Norma 124gr. Tactical through it. The first 20 rounds was just to check function. The second 20 rounds I shot for groups. Accuracy improved as I got familiar with the rifle and there were no malfunctions. Looking forward next winter to putting it to use on pigs.

a nephews really likes 125 ballistic tips and the speeds are slow enough they act like a normal bullet. Not sure of his load. But yours shows promise for with that load so its bound to be better with good ammo.

By the time you got to Group #4, it looks like things settled down to about a 1" group ctc. That's pretty good in my book. I managed 1.6" at 100 yards, with iron sights and Golden Tiger ammo, while sighting in this one.

Looks good, Shane. Sounds like a fun gun.

Mine is a basic Palmetto upper, that I added a UTG drop-in pic-rail handguard set too. It's kind of a broke-dick set of handguards I suppose, but they have worked out fine, and are very solid fitting. https://www.leapers.com/products-utgpro-mtu001t.html

Rost,
I've used Hornady .310 123gr. SP to load for my Ruger Ranch rifle. I'm able to get 5 shot one inch groups with it and it's a good bullet on deer. I'm planning on loading them for this AR.
If I need to, I have ballistic tips and Sierra 125s also. Barnes has put out a run of 123gr. TSX that I"m going to look at as well. My primary intent for this rifle on game being pigs, the Barnes is probably the best option.
MM,
The more I shot the rifle, the better I got. Took me awhile to settle in with it and get used to the trigger.

You could make a good argument of that being the perfect deer rifle!

They work really well in the 300/221 I refuse to risk sierras on game anymore. Other than the match kings. Its a good round for deer for sure. Most think you need so much more. You don't generally. Generally a 223 is more than enough

Rost, Very true on the.223. We've killed the heck out of deer and pigs with it. Still, it never hurts to go bigger. This past winter, we started ambushing them at night under a green light, trying to take more out. We hit them with cartridges from.223 to 35 Rem. Here is a picture of the setup.

LOVE my M4 7.62x39!!! I use a Milspec trigger though, as crappy ammo sometimes needs the harder snap.

Had a range day with my SIL and grandson to sight in the their reflex sighted 20 ga. for turkey season. I took along the Russian AR and Ranch rifle for us to put some rounds through. All had a great range day.
We ended up putting another 60 rounds of the Norma Tactical load through the AR. They were able to shoot approx. 2 inch groups. I now have a total of 100 rounds through the AR with no malfunctions. I continue to be happy with the Duramag magazines and would absolutely recommend them over ASC mags.
One thing I did learn though was, both dad and son are going to be limited to five rounds in a mag at a time. They both have way to much fun on the go fast shooting.
