There are some cartridges that just seem to work very well in the No 1 - the .218 Bee, .270, 6.5-284, .30-06, and .475 Turnbull are examples. Don't know if that's all a function of barrel quality, or vibration characteristics, where certain cartridges just naturally hit nodes of accuracy. The .300 H&H is another one where reports are it shoots extremely well, despite the "obsolete" case design. I now have one on the way to me. It was at one point restocked by Ruger, so the wood is a little above average. I actually have a stash of cartridges for it, and was able to find another batch of new cases. Anyone else have the same observations?

I have the following calibers in the #1. 7MM-08, 300 Savage, 300 H&H, 405 Win, 450-400 NE, 35 Whelen, 375 H&H. I had a #1A in 250 Savage that was an accurate rifle as well. All of these rifles shoot very well for me.

My No1 Bs (7mm Rem Mag, 25-06 and 204 Ruger) Shot very well, all around a little over MOA or better. My No1 V in 220 Swift is a 1/2 MOA rifle. My No.1 RSI in 7x57mm,,,, It's a problem child. It's a 1 1/2 MOA on its best day, but I love that little gun, so I put up with it.

I've owned and shot a bunch of 1Bs, and can't recall one that I would have ever called inaccurate.

I'm inclined to agre with the OP but not sure it's because of certain specific cartridges vs other cartridges. For example, I have two 30-06 "B" models and neither one groups worth spit. On the other hand, I have four #1s in .300 Win. Mag., three "S" models, two of which are 200th year guns and one a recent buy that is a black pad. The fourth gun is the "B" model and all four gun will shoot sub MOA groups and most of the time give sub half inch groups from the bench. Those four rifles are the best of my herd and all four love the 200 gr. Sierra Hot Core over a top load of the long gone Winchester WMR powder. That load loves the 26" barrels of those #1s and also a Winchester M70 with 26" barrel. It's my do all load for my .300 Win mags. PJ

I played with a No 1 in 7x57 Mauser in RSA that belonged to a PH. Took some impala and warthog with it. It was a neat little rig
