question-does the model 7 barrel fit a model 700? I have a model 7 I'd like to re-barrel. Also, where would you go and what brand barrel would you suggest?

The old 18 inch or 18.5 inch whatever they were, have the same threads. Can't speak to the new. miles

7, 78, 600, 660, 673, 700, 721, 722, and 725 made by the original Remington Company all have the same barrel tenon specs, so the barrels can be swapped, sometimes easily and sometimes not so easily.

Barrels are like people, in that every one is an individual and no two are exactly alike. I have Remingtons with Douglas, Hart, and Shilen barrels that all shoot straight. I've recycled several Remington 700 barrels by installing them on Remington 7 actions. I like the balance of the 22" 700 Mountain Rifle contour barrel on the Remington 7 action, as the longer barrel gives the package a more neutral balance than the factory specs package.

Depends on a coupe of things: money, purpose primarily.
Do you want 1/2 MOA accuracy or would 3/4 MOA be fine?

I’ve been using a certain barrel maker (E.T.Shaw/Shaw) for 50+ years. They were a little spotty at first, but I’ve had excellent results in the last 20 or 30 years. The last barrel I got from them is .5 MOA fairly consistently. Certainly not bench rest accuracy but pretty good for a .375 barrel.

One brother I had insisted on Douglas premium air gauge and he won bench rest matches with his rifles. My brother-in-law would buy a 700 and without shooting the rifle would send it off to be barreled by a top notch barrel manufacturer. My 700’s shot nearly as good and sometimes as good as his custom barreled 700’s.

He finally figured out that spending $1,000 wasn’t always necessary.

I prefer classic.
