A more mature Giant Schnauzer wouldn't likely have shown his/her back to the mountain lion, and might have gotten in a good bite or two.

Their home is just south of Angeles National Forrest, so there's lots of critters out there. Those animals don't abide by gated community fences either. Also, that woman is an idiot, and the dog would have been dead without the man's quick reaction to the situation.

What would the possum cops and LEO’s think about a dead cat with a few buckshot holes?
HOA may not like that, either.
Think I’d blast first ask later.

Dog is lucky to have survived that. Nothing walking this earth wants to have to combat a cat of its own size.
Now with even more aplomb

I am not particularly fond of cats, especially larger ones. Cat should have been deflated and disposed of.

At least the guy said he went for his gun. He had the right intention. Should have blasted it when it came back but he'd probably be sent to the penitentiary for years in California.

' Those smiley-faced owners had no idea how close their dog was to being killed. The cat has already shown that he will be back.

I get the idea that maybe that cat hadn’t had to kill for living and as a result lost his edge. A truly wild cat Killing for a living would have killed that dog in a heart beat. They routinely take down 800 lb elk and on occasion will kill a moose, a moose is formable opponent for any critter.

DF I caught some coyotes trying to lure my dog out in our neighborhood. Our hoa doesn't allow gunfire in the neighborhood. I shot one of the coyotes anyways. The guy in charge of our hot was upset that I didn't get the other two. That was before California's took over our neighborhood though. Bb

DF In Kali the shooter would be in deep s hit if caught or found out. Shoot Shovel Shut up Even with a chewed up dog as justification? They gonna pay the vet bills? Defending one’s property and pets? But this is Kali. So, guess it doesn’t need to make sense. DF

That cat wouldn’t last long like that around here.
Cajun heard they were gonna add a month to hunting season. He wanted to know what they were gonna name it.
He was eating pretty well during the other 12.
Bet those Kali dudes wouldn't know how to cook that cat.
Don't ya know these Cajuns would know how to cook him, and when they got done, it would be good.

There's a reason our forefathers deleted a bunch of them as soon as they could. The ones that made it through the 19th century had a good fear of man.

i live and have always lived in the country , if you pee outside to leave your own scent posts on a few of the same trees does help some , i also shoot all critters i don`t want around my place ,even bears and coyotes stay away from my house better since i have those sent post marking my land by the house ,bullets help too. when i was about 10 years old 60 years ago neighbor shot a cougar close to where i now live , i have not seen or had any trouble with any cougars but these big cats are kinda elusive with a low population here in Minnesota.

Too bad they didn't have one of these. South African Boerboel. Which looks like a giant version of my dog.

A Boerboel would be an awesome dog to own, but I wouldn't want to have to pay to feed one.

I bet there are Giant Schnauzers (particularly males) out there that would have given that cat a fight he'd remember.
