Okay, not really a Mauser, but Mauser-ish. My LGS has a .223 w/laminated stock on the rack for $550. Just fingered it lightly, but seems to be in good shape.

Valley Guns II, Inwood, WV. 304-229-4411

I’m all .223’d up.

Pretty much any rifle with a Mauser style action is good in my opinion. I love the controlled round feed.

Why do I have to press 1, for English?

Several years back Remington 799s were sold cheaply by CDNN I believe. They didnt really catch on, but usually when you see them lately they are priced high

No crap.

They blew out 375s and 458s for a few hundred bucks. 798s I think.
Knew I should have bought at least 1 of each,
of course I didn't.

Blow outs are where the money is.
Often they are bastard guns no one wants,
until they are unavailable.

Suddenly, when they realize there is a gun out there that not everyone can have,
they want them.

Varmint caliber pump guns, or levers.
Ugly multicolor plastic stock Rugers that no one wanted.
Revolvers with odd chambers.

Nothing is more attractive to the masses than owning something others can't have.
No matter it's real worth

I’ve seen some pretty nice customs built on these. Might take some cleaning up like many Zastavas, but the bones seem solid.

I’ll take another peek next time I’m in.

not a crf. it has a sako type extractor. I'd go for a Howa today.. but here's a custom Charles Daly/Rem/interarms mini.

This was 22-250 now is 7mm BR

I would totally buy that if I didn’t live clear across the country.

Those 798/799 rifles were good quality and sold relatively cheap.

A mini-mauser .223 is on my bucket list!

Been watching 798's on the broker, they are bringing really good money, might as well buy the real thing.

Never paid a lot of attention, but belief that the Remington Model 799 fit the profile of Zastava. An established foreign firm with sustained reputation of performing in delivering quality mauser type action products and in volume as desired. Remington reaching out for some new 'margin' defining product in profitability formula, New CRF vistas, as fresh approach to failed to that time Push Feed rifle experience.

More than rearranging the Titanic deck chairs, but far less than the Carpathia arrival in time to 'save the day'! To my mind, if to view such products as the Interarms Whitworth Rifle line "assembled" of Zastava barreled actions, The formula of mating such with high quality stocks in England, a better product in architecture achieved. if not so much in performance gains already established in either rifle genre, the Remington formula of "play it again Sam" as assembling foreign made components yet catered to "American Labour as a failed formula Our American edge was even in those Remington Zastava coalition days, a formula where an otherwise vacuum of foreign labour capabilities and then if consumer products a considerable 'bump upward' in price cost as also leas competitive of better foreign incorporated labour formulas!

Descending from the 'carried away' pulpit as ever conjuring living in "the best of times!"
Nostalgically...

I had the Remington 799 a few years ago in a 223. it was okay. I didn't care for the small bolt handle.

I bought it when they were first out and fairly cheap and then the price really went up for a while about the time of discontinuation..

Had one in 222. Action wasn't the smoothest and the trigger needed work but it shot well

I had a couple of the Interarms sporters back around 1980 when FNs were mostly unobtanium. Later on I discovered the Sears rifles and other assorted FNs have come my way, including a Sako and a Husky. Like you, if I’m paying FN money, I want an FN.

Have three right now, including a full custom by Paul Morton of San Antonio, the one-armed gunsmith. Nice parts, great workmanship, and Morton’s distinctive schnable forend. It’s promised to my cousin, if he ever comes to get it.

I had two 798 actions and they appeared as nice as any FN action I had ever seen - heads above the Interarms-Charles Daly-Zastava actions IMHO. Excellent finish, no rounded corners, wavy buffing, etc.
