Any opinions on bonded shoes vs riveted ones?

Bonded! If ya don’t maintain your brakes…..the rivets will contact the drum before you wear the bonded down to the metal to metal contact begins.

Or at least that’s the way I remember them from my youth, many years ago! memtb

Did they make bonded back then?

I never remember seeing them back when I worked at a garage...

I thought that the rivets were softer than the drums anyhow.

Bonded is fine for normal people.

Rivets are people that have no choice but to abuse their brakes in a severe manner... i.e. mountain driving with a heavy trailer etc.

If you are not actively engaging EVERY enemy you encounter... you are allowing another to fight for you... and that is cowardice... plain and simple.

They may be softer, not sure. Though it would make sense. I remember riveted shoes from when I was young! memtb

Bonded.

The brine they put on our roads is notorious for getting between lining and backing. Rust forms, the steel swells, and the lining delaminates or just breaks.

Took a bit to figure that out.
All of a sudden it was a big deal for trucks.

I’ve had it happen on cars.
