Wonder if the new ones with the turbo engines are as good?

[quote=K_P]I took some serious shiiit from a couple of "friends" when I bought my 2017 Tacoma.
"Japanese truck KP? Why didn't you buy American?"
I said my truck was built in Texas (true) but they said "Toyota" is a Japanese company.
Okaaaaaaay....
That's when I tell them that no jap ever sent my job to China... And that's the truth. Picked up a '23 Tacoma in January, could have got a '24 but they are now all turbocharged. Turbo's are great for power, and help mileage I'm told. But I don't know if they are perfected yet and they cost some serious $$$ when they crap out. Still got my '09 Tacoma 4 cyl. 5 speed with 311K on it. Got the original clutch replaced a couple thousand miles ago. It might go to my sister & her husband as a second vehicle to replace an '09 Kia that just succumbed to structural ( frame?, subframe?) rust issues.

That's a great 2001 Toyota. I'm not 100% sure of all the realities, but I've seen some data showing that more-recent Toyotas aren't any more reliable or durable than GMs or Fords.

Driving 4 Toys at the moment, a '18 Rav, '03 Tundra, 240K, 93 PU, 280K, and a 92PU, 150K. Had the 93 since 96, it's had a rough life but just won't die.

Tikka, what part of Utah are you in? I saw a white cruiser like that near kodacrome park yesterday. My kids are all getting to hunting age now and don't like being in the back seat of my 94 2 door yukon when hunting.
I've been looking at older 4 door vehicles for a hunting truck so my wife pointed out the white cruiser yesterday. She likes toyotas. She thought it was smaller than 4 runners but i lotd her it just seemed small compared to the 2024 z71 suburban were driving but the crusers are fairly big fir an import. I like the suburban but im not about to run it through the brush and its too long for serious offroading.
I'm in Orderville tonight and theres quite a few older off road type rigs around here. It seems like every other home down here has some 4x4s in the yard they're working on. I need to find a Toyota like yours and see if it'll work for a family hunting truck.
Bb Weren't me.......although I frequent that area often....Kodachrome & Cottonwood Canyon Don't over look the 'sleeper' Sequoia for a hunting rig Not the same build quality as the LC/LX series although Headed out this morning with the gray LX...Burr Trail....Wolverine Loop...way east of Orderville The LX is fully equipped/stocked for for most anything that would happen in BFE Wish'd I still had this '98 TURD w/V6 & manual ):

No one hates Toyotas, I think it’s the fan girl behavior of their owners that most folks find obnoxious. Yup, same fan girl behavior as vegans, crossfitters, duramax owners, stihl owners, .......

Nothing wrong with the old Landcruisers. My brother has a 1995 1HD-T with over 450 000km on it. The body is getting old now but the engine still idles like it was new. Serviced every 5000km.

My ‘09 Tacoma 2.7L stick shift. 330k. Runs like a sewing machine, very little maintenance. I just drove it from Georgia to Utah to Montana to South Dakota.

I hate Toyotas so much that I've driven them since 1976. Currently own two.

Yeah, what is Callldumb gaining by coming on a thread or any thread with just the intention of pissing on what everyone else has posted.
I gather his intention was to let everyone else know, that he's one of the campfire's bigger douche Bags.
for that, I'd say MISSION ACCOMPLISHED....
Way to GO Calldumb!! He and that ass clown festered are neck and neck.

Wife and I both own 2020 Highlander Platinums. Hers is a hybrid (our road trip car) and mine is a 6-cyl gasser (my boat tower). I get as much as 24 mpg city. Hers is even better and gets 35+ highway, even in the up and down mountains at altitude. She bought hers from the showroom and mine is a lease return with high miles. Love 'em.
We don't offroad, and the Highlander may be the perfect geezer car. These will likely be our last cars.
