Hello all!
I want to hunt Coyotes with a shotgun. Prefer 20 gauge but looks like 12 gauge might have to do due to availability. What would be your suggestion for a factory TSS load. I want at least 7 shot. I would welcome advice on 28 gauge loads also.
Thanks,
Rick

I prefer larger shot for coyotes, #4 buck or copper plated BB.

Thank you! I have both but haven’t tried either. I hear and read such good things about TSS I thought maybe I would give it a try. Not sure how 7’s would do though.
Any suggestions on TSS?
Thanks,
Rick

TSS #2 - #4 is fantastic on coyotes.

I shot a coyote last year with a 2 oz load of heavyweight #7 out of my 10 gauge. Range was 30 yards and shot was in chest area. Went straight down and never flinched.

#4 to BB is what I prefer in anything but steel when using a shotgun for coyotes. I lean towards the larger end of the spectrum as it means fewer holes to stitch up as most of my use of a shotgun is when the pelts are worth something.

I've been hunting fox with a shotgun for over 50 years and coyotes have been in my home area for around 30 years....during day hunts 12 ga 3" #4 buck shot at night BB is the largest that can be used....
I've shot several coyotes turkey hunting with #4 shot out of an Ithaca 10 ga. I would never do it hunting just for coyotes.....yes it does kill them but the hide is next to useless with all the holes....larger shot is a lot better and will penetrate much deeper on angle shots.....

There's no doubt you can kill a Coyote with a 28 gage if your close enough using heavy shot, but Why screw around with it about all you will do is educate Coyotes. get a 12 gage 2 3/4" most anyone will do use # 4 Buck, finding a Coyote that's dumb enough to answer your call and come in close enough to shoot with a shotgun is going to give you a education. If you plan on shooting much, look into regular Hevi-shot, which is much cheaper than TSS. I think I paid $50 for a box of 25 #2.
