I've never shot anything heavier than a 44 Mag in my Contenders, so the standard Weaver 92A base has always worked just fine for me. However I'm not fond of the overhang on the front section of that mount and I have been thinking about trying the Warne base, or a Tally ring and base combo.
For a 44 Mag I think ring selection is more critical. If you don't get a well-fitted, "grippy" ring you may experience some scope jump and subsequent damage to the finish on your scope.
Be careful if you try the Warne rings as they can compress your scope body if you cinch them down without lapping them. I've actually had pretty good luck with the Weaver Quad-Lock rings. They are cheap but effective.
