The key to using a Kifaur Tipi or a Cabelas Alanak tent is having a wood burining stove to keep things warm. Both of those tents are single wall tents and both will condense on the inside if not heated.

I just checked the Cabelas web site and the smallest canvas wall tent they offer costs $650 plus $300 for poles. An Alanak tent costs $550. So a couple of domes is definitely cheaper but it's not very practical to heat a nylon dome tent.

I would not have the Kifaru without a liner as you are spot on about this. However, the system works VERY well, is portable and comfortable for extended stays. The only downside is price as K gear is all USA built and this costs more than chicom stuff....fine by me, I do not buy commie.

Spotshooter:

Here's some ideas of things that you can do.

I setup this camp in 1978 about a mile from the road. This tent is pretty heavy so I didn't carry it very far, but a mile is far enough to get away from most of the road hunters. The tent is a canvas gable tent. I haven't seen one on the store shelves for years.

I set up this camp a couple of years later using two canvas gable tents and a big tarp.

Eventually we went to a big wall tent. Here's an interior view of that. We always set it up right next to the trucks because it's too heavy for carrying any distance.

Here's a camp that I setup in Alaska on a float hunt. The tent is a Cabelas XPG-4, 4 Season. We had a campfire and sat under the rain fly in the pouring rain and were perfectly comfortable.

Last Fall I went to Alaska again on a float hunt and setup this rainfly in addition to the Cabelas tent. Again we sat under the rainfly with a campfire just outside in the pouring rain and were comfortable and dry.

Here are some examples of other camps that I have used over the years.

I used a North Face VE-25 on the Kahiltna Glacier.

This is a Moss "Stardome" on the Green Ridge of Mount Shasta.

This tent is a Sierra Designs "Clip Flashlight". It's a very lightweight backpacking tent but pretty small for spend much time with two guys.

Here's another picture of the Moss "Stardome" on the Olympic Penninsula.
