,..a very nice old pre safety 336. It's even got some decent walnut furniture. For some reason, I sold the one that I had back when I was a young'un. I feel like I've got it back again.

Ah well, i do like the 336's..........a lot I never gave a second thought to buying another one,... then my brother got one. I loaded up a sack of cartridegs for it and we went out to the club to try it out. I'd forgotten how nice a good old 336 was. After that, I had to find another. This one jumped out at me today while I was kickin' around the pawn shops. $300 out the door.

That was my first hunting rifle(in 35 Remington).
Great brush guns and still my favorite for whitetail.

Damn, how old? Does it look as nice in person? Before 1983 is all I can say. They put crossbolt safeties on them after that,.. and yeah, it looks like it does in the pic.. The action doesn't even feel broken in yet. I'd guess that it spent many years setting in the corner of a closet.

Nice. I just bought a 336 for my son. It's the one with the safety, but I couldn't argue the price. 30-30.

I saw two like that in a shop for $250 each awhile back. I'm still kicking myself for not getting one of them.

Found a page which gives Marlin manufacturing dates,... a good reference. The one I just bought was made in 1974,.. the year I graduated from High School,.. which, coincidentally, was the year that I bought my previous one. Here's the page. http://oldguns.net/sn_php/marlinlookup.php
