On to the suject at hand. Here unless you own a bunch of land deer season (bow, muzzleloader, and gun) pretty much stops all small game hunting on public land from late Sept through early Jan. That leaves Aug, Sept, Jan, and Feb for squirrel.
I'm ever unfaithful. I had the perfect squirrel gun and sold it - H&R 410. With WInchester #4's it'd bring down a squirll if you could tell head from tail. Didn't tear up all up and could be used on movers. Now, I waver between a 22 (rifle or pistol) and 12ga (because it's my only shotgun though I am considering a H&R youth 20ga). Now, I'm mostly looking for a barrel and scope for my Contender.
Tree rats are dang near perfect for breakin' in kids on hunting. Eat real good.
BTW, anyone needing the rabbit population thinned let me know - that is the number 1 event for my dad and me. Unfortunately the coyotes seem to be keeping the rabbits thined out of late (and everyone's posting their fields).
