A silicone based sealant/adhesive. Has been around for years. I think GE was the first to put it out.

All said, the Savage 99 is a genius of a rifle. Although no longer produced, it remains highly revered, as it was the foundation from which Arthur Savage built one of America's great gun companies. >> (Jon Y. Wolfe) <<

So if I am only experiencing the "click" where the fore-stock meets the receiver is it still wise to pop in a small o-ring. Or do I just have to tighten it as is, and run a few small beads of RTV where it meets metal. I would like to do this right and not worry about it again. I allready ordered a new stock sqrew, thanks for that link!!

Don't use the high temperature RTV (the orange stuff) , just get some black 100% silicone caulking. All RTV means is room temperature vulcanizing which just means it cures at room temperature.Personally. I don't think a very small amount of movement will hurt you, but if it bothers you, I'd try the o ring first and if that works, problem solved. If not, then try the silicone.

Last question I promise!! So for the guys that have installed an o-ring, is it supposed to fit over the female sqrew post (on the barrel) and essentially around the hole in the wood?? So that when it is installed it fits between the wood and the barrel?? Please try to explain in detail. Thanks

My conscience is clear in knowing I have tried to steer these newbies in the right direction...South of 1 million. Here's the real deal, ...trade into pre-million quality.
