Has anybody tried these? I'm sure they are probably not the quality of Filson's, but they are also less than half the price. I just saw these on the website and wondered how they might compare as a hunting/hiking pant

Can't say anything about the Cabelas whipcords or Filson whipcords, although I do have their heavy mackinaw pants and the quality is top notch. However, LL Bean's used to carry Johnson's of Vermont woolen pants and I saw these in person but never did buy them. Just recently LL Bean brought back their whipcords and they are just as thick as the Johnsons. You might want to try a pair....they're on for $35.

I ordered a pair but returned them. Just didn't like the feel of the fabric. And, they were really small - if you decide to buy I'd recommend ordering a size larger than you normally wear.

I own two pairs of the Cabelas ripcords. I agree with ODay, they run a little small around the thigh but they fit me. The fabric was rougher than I would have liked but they have softened up and they are wearing well. I would recommend them.

Lighter than Levi's and more comfortable, IMHO. These are not high quality/high dollar pants but serve me well on day trips.

I've got a pair of pants that I've beaten the crap out of and they're still chugging. I've also got one of their shirts since Filson doesn't make a whipcord shirt, and I wear it six months out of the year. One pocket button came off since the button thread isn't the best, but that's an easy fix. I like the shirt enough that I've got a second one in the top of the closet for someday when my first one pukes. That's going to take a very long time. Yeah, the material starts out a little rough, but it softens with use. The pants do run a little small too.

I've got two pair, a pair of Cabela's heavy 24-27 oz. "washable" wool pants and some 32 oz. Filson's.
As a hunting pant, they are cut too snug. Buy them two inches larger and you are all set. That said, I like the heavier, full cut Cabela's better. The whipcords aren't as warm, so I wind up wearing more base layer(s) for the same warmth. When the day warms up, the heavier pants, because of less base layer(s) and their looser fit, tend to be more comfortable.
As a tough, very versitle hunting pant, they beat everything else I've tried. None of my traditional camo style, mixed fabric pants can beat them for wear, warmth, even when wet, comfort when it gets warm, and quiet. I'm very big on modern, super efficent, hi tech fabrics for less weight, bulk, warmth and moisture transference. But, when it comes to pants, I haven't found anything that works better. Frankly, I haven't made much of an effort to look lately. Wool, either whipcord or the heavier weights, works quite well. E

I haven't tried any wool pants yet, but I have really been wanting to try a pair. I'll have to see if my local Cabela's keeps any in the store. They tend to only carry the popular stuff most of the time.

I've never seen them in the Cabelas I've been at. I ordered mine online.
