Hey Guy's, I can knock one more off the list now. I just got the barreled action back from Mike McCabe and it's about perfect. The rifle is just a bunch of parts picked up here and there, but sum total of what they made even surprised me and was there though the whole process. The barrel came off an old "guild" mauser and was auctioned off on Ebay. It was an 8X57J but the bore was ruined. It was sent to Jim Dubell for a re-bore. A .338-06 was chosen. Mark Stratton installed the barrel. The action is one of those Italian made Mausers Legacy sports was selling at one time. It's called a Safari M98 Global Trading Mauser. A little rough around the edges, but they clean up real nice. A few years ago Legacy wanted out of the Mauser action business and deeply discounted these. I was able to pick it up for a song. The only thing that was done to it was a new bolt handle added. The old ones look like the old F.N.'s. They were nice, but I wanted something different on this rifle. Mike McCabe added this one. The stock blank came from from Luxus Walnut. Adam of at Luxus put me in a far nicer piece of walnut than I should got for what I spent. He explained it was a "second" and couldn't get full price for it because of a bark pocket it had that probably wouldn't turn out. Shane Thompson turned the blank and worked real hard to miss as much as possible. He couldn't miss everything, what he couldn't miss he layed it out where it would be easy to fix. It turned out very nice. An almost local guy named Tim Lyon-Smith checkered it for me. Major credit goes to Mike McCabe on this project. He changed the bolt handle, rust blued the barreled action. Well, here is how it turned out. I'm very happy with it. Terry Here's one with my new kitty cat Here are a few of the stock patch Before After

I always enjoy TC1's posts of his great rifles and this is yet another good one! Although I appreciate how razor sharp edges on wood are a good way for a stockmaker to show off his skill, I do prefer the slightly broken edges of this rifle. These kind of edges will continue to look good after the rifle has been afield a few times! TC1, would you care to adopt a university professor into your family? John

Mark, I used a piece of wood off the blank and a little miles Gilbert bedding compoud. The Miles Gilbert is a little harder to use but it gets in tight places better.
John, you teach me how to spell and I'll teach you how to work a piece of sandpaper. Deal? HAR! :^)

That is what a "custom" rifle is supposed to look like, and be!
WOW!!! Very very nice indeed.
While there are areas of personal taste I would do differently, they don't warrant mention, because they're just my preferences and have nothing to do with the beauty or functionality of the rifle.
Outstanding...thanks for showing the pics.

Holy crap!
Man, that's one of the best looking rifles I've seen in a long, LONG time!
If it was a 9.3x62, I'd be trying to figure out a way to get it from you.....
Man, that rifle is stunning.

Man that looks great.
I have always been a purely functional gun guy, but some of the stuff you guys are building are making me want something that looks as good as it shoots. I hope I can resist the temptation, because I own too many customs. I know where a bunch of black walnut is laying around in Northern Va. They timbered my sisters place on cowherd mountain and left a bunch of butts about 6 foot long and 24 inches in diamater. Would this wood be any good for making a stock if it has been laying around since last August?
