Yesterday I was given a Ithaca 40M .22 lever action single shot rifle. Looks to be in 90% or better condition. What can any of you tell me about this rifle? Maybe even about what it's worth? Lawdog

I bought one back in the early '90's for $25. for a first .22 for my son--a lot af ammo went thru that thing and a lot of rabbits fell before he graduated to a Browning lever. In the later '90's I picked one up for $60 that looked as though it had never been fired. Neither one were very accurate but good enough for 25 or 30 yard shots on small game. I sold it to a friend who wanted it for his daughter's birthday present. I see them from time to time on tables and at pawn shops--usually around $75 or so. Steve

Law dog when I was 13 or 14 my dad bought me one after I graduated from an NRA gun safty course, that was a long time ago. 1967 or 8 I proceed to shoot a brick of 22 ammo a month through that poor old thing it took me four years or more to wear out the first extractor. I still have it tucked away back in the gun case in need of another extractor. I believe dad gave something like $25.00 for it brand new. This little rifle killed a lot of vermin at the old city dump.
