Anyone in this forum heard anything on a new Remington bolt .22 coming out. Any web links I can go to view/read about it?
Why is it called a double u, should'nt it be called a double v?

There's a write-up in the Jan 2004 American Rifleman. The most interesting aspects I thought were the semi-match chamber, the barrel being attached with an allen head clamp screw, and a detachable magazine. It probably wont be long before the Shilen's, Lilja's, and GM's of the world supply barrels for it.

No I'm sorry I don't. The closest thing I could describe it to would be a Kimber. It has a polyurethane finish and matte receiver and barrel. Laser trimmed 18LPI checkering with dual borders. I have already heard some people complaining about the bolt lock-up but it wont deter me from buying. Lastly the trigger is adjustable for overtravel, pull weight and engagement. The author said it was the best Remington trigger he had ever tried.

Read the article in the Rifleman tonight. Nice looking rifle but I think a bit pricy at $710.00 suggested price. I think I will hang onto my old 541S for the time being. I have never had any problems with t the trigger pull on it. 257AI

[color:"green"] [/color] I'm with 257 on this one....Think I'll wait and see. I already own two "500" series Remington Bolt actions, a 513 "Matchmaster" and a 541T Sporter. They are both extremely accurate. The 541 has won several matches in this area, even a 100 meter bench match. It is an early series 541T with a fully adjustable trigger, and it is very good. If this new offering could match the accuracy of either of my present Remingtons, I would be interested, even at the price. FWIW I also own a clunky old Mossberg 142B that is no slouch in the accuracy department, although the Rems are better. Regards, Eagleye.

Haven't seen it yet but soon will -- at Remington's new-products bash at Nellis AFB next month, the day before the SHOT Show starts, and again at Remington's huge exhibit area during the show. I got Remington's announcement of it in their 2004 press kit (but no photo -- just the usual hype prose). The latest issue of SHOT Business magazine has dope on a slew of new rifles for 2004, including several from Remington, but nothing on the new .22 LR. I'm already interested from a personal standpoint and will pay special attention to every opportunity to look it over and try it out. Also, overhearing others' at-the-range comments on it can be very interesting. I'll let y'all know if I come-up with anything worth reporting. I'm interested in getting one on consignment long enough (come warm weather) to range-test it with at least two kinds of ammo, in direct comparison with the .22 LR rifles permanently resident in my cabinets -- a very early Kimber, a Brno, a Romanian military training rifle, and a Chinese autoloader. Don't still have my old Remington 541S or any of its predecessors, alas. I know only one thing for sure about it so far -- at over seven hundred bucks retail or even at Remington's discount for writers, the only way I'll have one here will be on very temporary writer's consignment. Meanwhile, have a look at this: Remington Model 504

Saw one at a gun show in Des Moines today with a $530 tag on it. Nice looking rifle.

Buy 2 CZ's, or one CZ and a nice $250.00 scope. They shoot right out of the box. The Remmy will probably rival a Glock, for polymer content.
Oh! They use the 597 style mags, so most will probably effectively be single shots. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

They use the 597 style mags ... I don't know 587-style magazines from Adam and Eve's nail-clippers -- but FWIW, here's this from the press release that I just got in Remington's 2004 press kit: "Dual extractors provide for positive feeding from the 6-round, flush mount metal magazine" (my bold-face). So rumors of a plastic magazine are just rumors, apparently, though the metal magazine may have a plastic follower, I suppose. The bolt does lock at the rear, according to this press release: "The receiver is machined from a solid bar of steel with a rear lock-up design ...." Given the reputation earned by the Remington Model 788 for unexpectedly good accuracy, I wouldn't knock rear lock-up as a matter of principle. Besides, I couldn't come-up with a good way to make a front-locking bolt feed .22 Long Rifle rounds from a magazine into the chamber. I worked several weeks on that assignment as a designer for a well known manufacturer of rimfire rifles. The design problem is getting that short round safely across the gap (locking-lug recess) between the magazine and the chamber. Finally, I told the owner that he'd have to abandon the front lock-up and lock the bolt at the rear -- and eventually, he did. This is more interesting to me: " ... semi-match grade chamber to reduce freebore .... The 20-inch clean barrel has a standard sporter contour with 5R button rifling (derived from the Model 40-XR rimfire target rifle) ...." Also: "Drilled and tapped for scope bases, all Model 504 rimfire rifles will be shipped with machined steel Weaver-style bases during the first year of introduction and comes [sic] with a cable lock (CA DOJ approved) for safe storage" (my bold-face and italics). Apparently, Remington is making some effort to do something right this time. I hope so but wait to see for myself.

There is an article in the Feb. shooting times magazine. According to the magazine article there are two locking lugs. "When the bolt is rotated to its locked position, the root of its handle and a smaller lug on the opposite side of the bolt body engage their respective slots in the receiver. The left-side locking lug is easily overlooked." It is a pretty good article by Layne Simpson, and has a lot of pictures and a drawing of the trigger. miles
Look out for number 1, don't step in number 2.

The current production mags for the 597 are magnesium and plastic. They come in 2 styles, those that feed and those that don't. Some folks received metal replacements directly from Remington and they were too corroded to use, in some cases.
The body is metal, the floor plate is "snap-on" plastic and the follower plastic.
In the rifle's defense, when it would feed it was accurate and the quick change barrels are neat. Just pop it out, clean it and stick it back in.
An interesting side note about the freebore, My CZ/.22lr has a short chamber, I've found 3 types of ammo that the rifling is engraving the bullets upon chambering.

The Remington 504 magazine is identical (at least to me) to the 597. I took a look at one briefly today.
