Me too! I was going to try a .22 because I've never had one. I don't want one if it's really inferior to the .177.

Guys,

Please don't misunderstand me...

The Disco in .22 is a superb choice as well.

The .22 caliber has the advantage of a bit more "wop" on the target.
It is also actually a bit more efficient in terms of velocity vs pellet weight. BUT- the .177 guns do shoot a bit flatter, AND most .22 cal pellets are simply more expensive and harder to come by if you are buying locally. If you are buying online, then the availability problems are not as bad.The .22s still cost more per pellet, though.

One exception to the pellet expense is the Benjamin Discovery HP pellets which were designed especially for the Discovery rifles. They are basically a Crosman Premier heavy domed pellet with a hollow point. The heavy skirts resist deformation at higher PCP velocities and they seem to shoot well in most Discos.

The 177 and 22 pellets in this style cost the same $8.99 per fifty at Pyramid Air.
If I was going to push the limits of air rifle hunting a bit in terms of game size -the .22 would work just fine.. wink

How loud? How much?

I am still looking for a reasonably quiet, reasonable inexpensive air rifle.

Hey, thanks for all the info.
