Nothing wrong with an 11-87 for trap. A kid I coach (with a little help from Calvin, the senior coach ) just tied for first in the state 4-H match, beginner division, but lost on the tie breaker to a shooting buddy. 11-87 in 20 ga. In fact our beginner division shooters posted the top three scores, and we had a lot of fun getting there. Just had to brag about the kids a little.

Which explains a lot.

Eremicus, As a 27 year 1100 shooter who used a 391 for a couple of years and hunted upland with a Benelli Montefeltro 20 gauge for a season I agree with everybody that likes these guns. They're all good depending on what you use them for but I'd want a gas operated semiauto for a lot of clay target shooting.
I'm not a high volume shooter either but I've put at least a couple of thosand rounds a year through my 1100 most years, both clay targets and hunting, a few years a lot more and haven't had any problems with it. I clean it about every 500 rounds and use a lot of Breakfree CLP. I eventually stayed with the 1100 because I was used to it and for the kind of hunting and shooting I do couldn't see any reason to change. I liked it the best and I already owned one. If you like your 1187 you might want to try the others first, if possible, to see if you like them better before putting the 1187 on the shelf.

Oh, don't worry. The heavy, 8 1/4 lb. 1187 isn't going to gather much dust. I just got done going after Blue Grouse with it, again. Yesterday's hike started at 6100 ft, and proceeded about 4.5 miles to an elevation of 8700 ft. where the hunting started. This time, unlike the last two outings, I didn't find any birds. Pretty windy up there. I have two lighter, well used guns. I just can hit more with this one. So, since I don't get many chances to shoot blues, I take it. Any thing else I buy has to feel a little muzzle heavy and have enough weight to encourage me to follow through. Or at least that's what seems to work better for me. So, I'll see what looks and feels right when I get around to getting something. E
