I sometimes shoot .44 Russian that I load myself in my S&W M-69. I make what I call my ".44 Russian +P" loads for it using 240 gr. coated LSWCs. I recently ordered some sample packs of various bullets from a manufacturer and they mistakenly sent me a package of 200 gr. coated lead RNFP bullets. After a phone call to them, they agreed to correct my shipment and told me to keep the .44 bullets sent in error. I'm thinking they might make good Russian loads. Anyone have a recipe for Russian loads (to be shot in a .44 Mag gun) with these 200 grain bullets? I have Titegroup, Unique, and Universal powders. I have been loading my 240 grain "Russian +P" loads with 4.8 gr Titegroup for 815 FPS and 5.4 gr Universal for 814 FPS, from a 4.25" barrel. Suggestions, please?

Why bother?

The commies you voted for are coming for your guns, anyway.

Uh...Is this directed at me? If so, would you mind telling me what damned commies I supposedly voted for and why the Hell would you make such a slanderous accusation?

4.6 Grains of Titegroup is very accurate with a 240. Very accurate with 180s as well. Odds are it will be accurate with a 200 grain bullet too.

It all sounds like fun.

But I suffered a hitch in my .44 loading plan that'll take a week or so to work out...
Cannot find my .44 shell holder...

I did grab a few boxes of .44 special from Underwood last week, though... Made some brass from that this afternoon... Just another avenue to pursue...

Thanks Mart

Missouri is closer than Alaska, and midway claims it has already shipped.

Got Thursday night off, and maybe it'll be here by then? Should have something loaded up by my next weekend off.

So I was contacted by a cast bullet manufacturer (after I inquired) about the 175 grain full wadcutters that I use in the Russian target load that shoot those 1" groups @ 25 yards :

He said they would do a small run of 2,000 of them. Naturally I bought them all. being a one-off, side run they were a bit more than most places, but for the kind of accuracy the load produces, a couple bucks extra a box is worth it I think.

So, probably in the next couple weeks I will have them loaded up.

I kind of want to shoot a PPC course of fire with a .44 Mag, using Russians, since they have such light recoil, and obviously are way more than accurate enough!

cool

...and once you've ordered a new one, the old one will pop up like a fishing bobber.

Nice pick up, Ed. I'll bet you've got some grips for it, too. smile

I purchased my first .44 Magnum a 61/2 M/29-2 in 1975 and have owned several over the years. My current .44 Magnum is a M/629 no dash with Magnaported 4" barrel, my go to load for several years now has been 7.5gr. of Unique with a 200gr. RNFP cast bullet. When I feel the need for more power I increase the charge to 9.0gr. Unique, those two loads handle all my needs with the .44 Magnum.

Those look interesting. Wish I could score some .44 WCs to try. I usually load my Russians with 240 gr coated SWCs.
