What a great place, Bemidji. I am still wearing shirts and pants from the Bemidji Woolen Mills I got back in '74 and '75 when I spent two summers and part of a winter at Lake Itasca. We would load up my old Scout with a bunch of people from the Biology Station and go to Dave's Pizza and later to Bridgeman's for a Lala Palooza sundae. It had, if I recall correctly, 8 scoops of ice cream, two bananas, and a whole bunch of nuts and whipped cream. The waitress would pin a badge on you if you ate it all. I have one of the several badges I earned right here on my desk as I write this. I need to get back up into those woods some day soon and pay my respects to Paul and Babe there by the lake.

I told my wife that you said that there may be hope for me yet. She said, "Not a Chance!" Feisty woman.

Dave's pizza is WAY overrated.

Backyard BBQ (at old Hard Times location) does do a GREAT brisket tho ...

Me and a buddy rented a sleeper the winter before last from a guy by the name of Cookie outa Waskish. Know him? People laughed at us when we told them who our "guide" was for some reason. Seemed like a nice enough guy to me. Maybe a tad 'fly by night' but nice.

There is nothing more frustrating than having a camera down on that lake! BIG walleyes sit 2 inches from your bait and stare at it. Then they casually swim off. smirk

OH and I think I saw Bigfoot on the way home too but hard to say for sure. My eyes were pretty road mappy.
