Looked at my Brother In Laws 6.5 RSAUM made out of a necked down 300 RSAUM. Very nice rifle built on a Sako with a 24" barell he claimed 3200 FPS with a 140 grain bullet.

I may not be smart but I can lift heavy objects
I have a shotgun so I have no need for a 30-06.....

Wow, that's smokin' fast! Considering the .264WM has more case capacity and does well to trump 3100 fps with a 140gr.

No pics it was in OR. The velocitys were what my BIL claimed sounded fast. Just wanted to know if it was posible with normal pressures. Saw fired cases & primers looked OK. He was using IMR 4831, his buddies 6.5 RSAUM had a shorter throat and would not handle his loads.

That is a little on the fast side. That is book max (and slightly over) with the 7saum with the same weight bullet.
So pushing a smaller diameter bullet would mean he is definitly pushing the limits on a cartidge that is already pushing the limits.

Methinks I've heard this story before. Who built the rifle?

I got 3200 fps out of my 6.5 WSM with a 26" barrel and 140 gr SBT and was pretty happy with that. I'm going to switch to 130 gr AB's and will probably just load them to 3200 fps and stop there. I would agree that 3200 fps from the SAUM in a 24" barrel is probably very high pressure.
