Loaded up 40 rounds of the stuff. 2 different slugs. A Lyman 420 grain (457193)cast at 20:1 and a Lee 475 grain same alloy. The Lee mold bullet SUUUCKED!!!! The Lyman bullet ROCKS!! Range:100 yards. Upper group shot with Lyman tang sight set for 200 yards. There are 7 bullets in that hole with #8 at 1 o'clock. X-ring-barrel sights right group first out. Left group after adjustment. The "shotgun" effect are the Lee bullets....YECCCHHH 90 grains GOEX Express FFG compressed .580 Seems to work pretty darned good

I have been lusting after one of the Italian import Copies of the hi wall in 45-90, that or a Sharps repro in 50-90. I can't afford the real thing. Have to save up for the repro.

Hmmm, the Pedersoli barrels have a reputation of being VERY first class. I got very lucky. BD, I have heard the 1885 repros are pretty decent shooting irons. I suspect that they are recommended for BP only though.

Word has it that the American Gun Company (McGowen Barrels) is coming out with a high wall: actions, barreled actions, and complete rifles. Cited prices seem very reasonable too. http://www.americangunllc.com/1885hiwall.htm Past experience has made me skeptical about such things actually coming to pass, but a quality American made M1885 at a fair price would be a real deal. Should sell like hotcakes. Paul

Only available in original black powder cartridges such as the 405 Win. and 444 Marlin. What's up with that?

?????444 Marlin was never a BP cartridge. I think tha company is looking to get the market of traditional minded shooters and hunters. Straight wall cases shine with BP. Cast bullets whether grease groove or paper patched Don't have any flies on them either. They should do well.

I just thought that was a goofy statement. .405 wasn't a BP cartridge either. Does anyone know where's there's a list of the calibers and how many of each, original 1885's were made?
I've had all that I wanted of alot of things I've had, and alot more than I've needed of some things that turned out bad.

Since I posted the American Gun Company link above, I ran into the attached thread on the ASSRA forum. http://www.assra.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?num=1228328046I sincerely hope these folks come through with a quality product, but meanwhile "buyer beware". Paul

I did not know the real deals were even made anymore, nithyer Winchester or Browning list them anymore. Davidsons aka gallery of guns.com has a limited run of Winchester made highwalls in 38-55,405, and 45-70 available again, along with the Creedmore editions chambered in 45-90. They're all on sale right now, one of the traditionals should arrive to your closest Davidsons dealer for 11-1200. Before you plunk down your money on one of the Italian repro sharps look real close at C Sharps and Shilohs basic 74's, there's not enough difference in price to settle for second place (Italian) anymore
the most expensive bullet there is isn't worth a plug nickel if it don't go where its supposed to. www.historicshooting.com

The High Wall was produced in so many different chamberings it is virtually impossible to list them all.....I don't think records exist as to chambering production numbers either....
