I've been kicking this around for a while and now I have a wild hair for another project so I thought I would post this here to see if anyone had an intrest. These 3 rifles are very rare Remington 700s I have collected. If you are familiar with the 280 Remington caliber you know that all 3 of these rifles are standard 280 Remingtons. Anyone who has access to John Lacys book on the Rem 700 should look these up. You will see just how rare these are. I would prefer NOT to break up this set. The set of all 3 is for sale for $3575 which includes S&H for all 3 to your FFL in separate hard cases. Each rifle is in as new condition and none of them has ever been fired. There are a few minor safe dings here and there but nothing of note. I do not have the original boxes. No trades please. PM me any questions.

Here is exactly how they are stored in my safe

Top is a Rem 700 BDL chambered and stamped 7mm-06. This is the rarest factory chambering of any Rem 700 and has a very unique story. It has the original sling that it came with from the factory. Very minor safe dings. Gun has never been fired.

Middle rifle is a dual stamped 700RS. Barrel is stamped 7MM Express/280 Rem. This too is an extremly rare factory chambering. Rifle is unfired.

Bottom rifle is a 700BDL chambered in 7mm Express. This rifle also is unfired and still has the original tag still on it.

You wouldn't happen to have matching ammo boxes? Now that would be everything!

Interesting set, read about them long ago. A unique set no doubt. IF not mistaken, I have seen long ago 7mm/06 RCBS dies, not sure if that was mfg. pre-280 nomenclature or not.

Actually I do have a full original box of ammo that is stamped 7mm/06 - 7mm Express Remington. It came with the original 7mm-06!! Hows that for cool!! BTW if someone buys the guns the box of ammo will go with it. 163bc

John Lacys book on the Remington 700 is a must have for anyone who really is a fan of the 700. In it he goes into great detail about these 3 chamberings and the 280s unusual introduction, re-introduction, & re-re-introduction. There are several rare chamberings in Rem 700 history. The 7mm-06 is the rarest of them all. The 7mm Express Remington and the dual stamped 7mm Express/280 Rem are also rare and somewhat hard to find anymore. Thanks for the looks and compliments. 163bc

Nice set.

The 7mm express remington isn't that hard to find.....LOL

I got a few boxes of Rem Express ammo when I bought mine in the mid 80's,But mine came in a classic stock and I don't think in 85' there were many factory classic stocks ( years) that my action would drop in... and the stock isn't modified for the barrel channel. Did Remington make a 06' classic before 1985?

The Classic was introduced in 1978 so a takeoff stock would have been around since then. The limited editions followed.

Thanks. So it is probably wearing a takeoff from a 270-or an 06, or maybe even a remington OTC stock.... or it is one rare gun...LOL

Did the early classics, pre the custom ( one year offering) classics have matte finish or polished blue? I think my Whelen Classic is matte.

From the guy I bought it from I highly doubt that he took a BDL and converted it.

Mine says 7mm EXP REM, barrel is stamped 83, SN A68572XX. It does have screws for iron sights.According to what I found that is correct, ie they made the 7mm exp rem 1977-1983.
1981 classic 7x57
1982 classic-257 roberts
1983 classic 300 H&H
1984 classic-Can't find.

So from this, if I did buy it in 85 which I am 99% sure, they didn't make a classic long action besides the H&H which should be a different barrel contour I suspect, to swap from a classic caliber donor..??? And they didn't make the 7mm a classic, they labeled it 280 rem..
