Has anyone around the fire developed loads for a .358 Winchester using a 225 gr. Nosler Accubond? I have a BLR lightweight that I would like to try the Accubond on, but I am hesitant to purchase an entire box because of the note in the Nosler manual that states "may not work in standard sized magazines". Has anyone ever developed loads using an Accubond for a BLR? Will a finished cartridge fit in the clip? Would anyone be willing to part with just one Accubond so that I may measure them in my rifle? Please shoot me a PM if you have any info. thanks in advance, Northerner

The Accubond is a pretty close copy of the Ballistic Tip 225 and it was found to be too long for a BLR magazine.

They worked in my MRC 1999 action, but were still seated fairly deeply. I ended up using the 225 gr Partition over a max load of W-748. Unfortunately, my rifle has a short throat, which negates the benefit of the longer magazine.

I wouldn't worry about it there CW, just load that thing up with any reasonable weight of cup and core bullet and go shoot something. That's the beauty of the medium velocity big bores: No need to pay for Champaign when you can drink 'er into bed with Ripple!:)

I am about to load up 225 accubonds as soon as my 358 Ruger M77 tang safety comes back from the gunsmith. I had him lengthen the magazine to 3". Nosler is right, the accubond doesn't fit properly with an OAL of 2.8". The ogive is a tad below the neck of the case which could cause feeding issues as well as take up precious powder space.
The good news is that the 225 Partitions,225 sierras and even the 225 TSX do fit the short OAL.

I bet you could trim your case necks enough to make it work.

I once had a .358 built on a .30-06-length Ruger 77 action. The AccuBond wasn;t around then but the 225 Ballistic Tip was--which was exactly the same bullet at the AB except not bonded. It worked--but what was the point? Other .35 225's shoot just about as flat at typical .358 ranges, even you extend those to 300+ yards.

Nosler Partitions, Hornady Interlocks or Woodleigh Weldcore and be done with it. Pointy bullets are ugly coming out of a BLR .358 <grin>

I have a 358 built on a model 70 with a Shilen barrel. It shoots the ballistic tip very well and also the Sierra in 225. Now that the ballistic tips are gone I'll have to try the accubonds. I could just stick with the Sierra's I guess.

I recently re-read a 10 year old issue of Handloader that had an article that dealt with this issue. The solution that worked there was to simply remove, or cut off the plastic tip to fit the round into the magazine without giving up case capacity. At 358 velocities, I don't think ballistic efficiency would decline enough to make a tangible difference. Can't speak to terminal performance of "noseless" AB, but suspect it would still get the job done. I just picked up 200 hundred of these earlier today, but they are going into a Whelen.
