I'd also look at using a bit faster than expected powder. Mule Deer suggested a load of 65gr R15 to me with 200/210gr Noslers and the recoil was noticabley less than the IMR 4350 load. According to the newest Nosler manual I'm not really giving up any performance either.

I've only used Noslers and they haven't not worked...

I like the fast powder/light bullet combo in the 338 wm. I loaded up some 160TTSX over varget last summer and it shoots well and the recoil is greatly reduced. Unfortunately I didnt get a chance to use it on game yet but I did recover a few bullets.
