Which one? AO, reticle type, all that stuff. What year? There are online date guides using the serial number. Dino in Reno

Be careful about the zero parallax distance for that scope. IIRC some fixed 8x non-AO scopes were set up to be optimum at longer than the usual distance.

Right you are mathman! The '88 Gun Digest says that the 8x36 had its dot or duplex focused at 300yds.

I've got an 8x AO, bought it new in late 70s, has target reticle - a fine duplex. Was on my Swift for decades, until my eyes faded and I needed more magnification. For the non-AOs, have heard the same as reported above - parallax is way out there.
It is rock solid, even yet. If I really want to check out a rifle, or build a new load, I use this scope even now. The even older 7.5x is a great scope as well; the 8x replaced it mid/late-70s.

Oh, in that case you should know that owning it will lead to blindness, hair loss, and a pimple on the end of your...barrel. So for your own safety, mail it to me now so I can dispose of it for you, I won't charge you a fee...
I'll watch for it in the classifieds :-)

I also had a 8x36, non ao, set for 300 yds, on a 222 groups at 100 yds were same as longer range, never had a problem with a scope set at 150, but this one was made for longer shots.
Light transmission? As good as anything SxS and that included 6xs and other similar variables.
Pre-fully multicoat lens so less lens in a fixed must be good for something!
I would like to see a 7.5x non ao by leupold with M1 elevation, in matte.
In an Fx-3, that would be sweet IMHO. Long shots on deer and yotes, even crows would be no sweat. They had around a 42mm obj it seems.
