What is the "skinny" on the Chamber Mate sub-gauge inserts. I have just read the Seminole Gunworks web page and this got me wondering if they would be an alternative to a tube set for my K-80. Has anybody used these in competition ? Results ? What are your opinions ? Thanks to those of you that responded to my tube set question. Let me know about the above, if possible. Thank you, Jim

I have a set and they work great. Mine are 12ga to 20ga. The biggest drawback is they will only work with certain shells. With winchester AA's or Rem STS's they work flawlessly. With Remington gun clubs they work fine, with only an occasional shell getting stuck. With any of the other cheap promo loads they are worthless. The shells get stuck which means the entire insert comes out and has to be cleared and reinserted.
The patterns are great, and recoil is very soft as they are sort of the ultimate backbore.

Jim: Plus one what Weagle said. Also be sure to keep the "o" rings well lubed and if you use them a lot you can get a powder ring buildup where they end in the barrel. If you shoot them a lot without taking them out some say it should be cleaned out before shooting 12ga again. Not sure of the validity of this, but I have seen the build up in the barrel.
How you been?

Thanks for the replys ! I would assume that the barrel should be cleaned before you change inserts. Like in a four gauge event. I don't see anybody cleaning a tube set except after the 12 ga. event. Depends on what order the events occur, I guess. Jim

I have never used the smaller chambermates, but I hear mixed reviews on the 12/28 and 12/410 inserts. In particular the 12/410 is said to throw very erratic patterns.

You better be sure they are well lubed or you will have a devil of a time getting them out. Don't put them in and shoot a day or two. Clean them at least twice a day if you are shooting any volume at all. Quail shooting on a plantation needs at least twice a day cleaning or they will be stuck. You really don't want that. I promise. They will not shoot in my English SxS but OK in all other O/U guns.
