"This was completely blown out of proportion," Kohorst said. "They were going to come through and meet with the townspeople and just practice going in and out of their homes. They were never, ever going to confiscate guns or anything like that."

they were just going to practice! whats wrong with that?
can people be that F-ing blind? geez! this is being escalated at an alarming rate!

This doesn't surprise me at all. I wouldn't want them "practicing" on my house! shocked

Yeah Penny, do you think they clean up after themselves if it is just for practice?

If they do find suspected evidence on a practice run, do they throw you back until the real exercise?

were the helicopters black?

In case y'all missed it....urban searches for weapons and house clearing are two of the primary activities of US troops in the sandbox. If the residents don't mind, I'd rather they practice in Sioux City than do it for the first time in Fallujah or Baghdad. If the residents don't like it, then not. I think it would be kind of cool to watch.

But they can't go in the gun room.

The article states that the practice session was called off because of "being deluged by nearly 100 e-mails and phone calls from gun-rights advocates nationwide." I find it very amazing that the gun-rights advocates were actually listened to. Sort of gives me hope.

Claymores.

Actually, there's so much gear piled up in there right now, it's almost impossible to get to the safe. Seasons are over, need to put all this duck and deer stuff away and dig out the turkey gear.

I'm spending today filling the equipment list for my son's rafting trip in Mexico in two weeks.....can't find anything in the clutter so I reckon I'll have to clean it out today. It's Mardi Gras, so I'm home all day anyway.

Cancelling the 'training exercise' just means that when the troops come knocking, they will have less training. They ARE coming though.........

I would have to think that the vast majority of "troops" (as in military) would not participate in it "for real", domestically.

Remember the voting numbers in the military for McCain vs the Obama voters. The support within the military for a White House sponsored raid and roundup would be pretty weak.

I doubt they would, I've talked to several active duty friends who draw the line at our borders.

the White House is frightened to publicly push even incremental gun control, because they know it will cost them a bunch of congressmen in purple states. besides the economy and a terrorist attack on the US, his biggest vulnerability is a bubba registration flood and an NRA led wipe out in the House.

Besides that, the posse commitatus statute is a slight problem.

there's plenty of real stuff to worry about with these clowns.

I hope your implication is correct. I'm concerned it may not be. Democrats (Socialists), for all their bluster, have never really worried about guns and crime, save for the crime of armed conservatives frustrating their re-make of America. They fully understand an armed citizenry is the last stronghold against the agenda they would like to foist on us all. It's a road we've been going down a long time. I'm afraid many believe this is their time and destiny to disarm America and begin a new era.

these clowns may have the ambition, but they lack either the balls or the competence for a naked violent coup.

The Army has been training in MOUT (Military Operations Urban Terrain) long before DS 1 or 2. European stationed units trained for it, to be used in Central Europe during the Cold War..

I see both sides of the argument, but...

even though the practices are intended as preparation for war, they also serve as practice for door to door peacetime searches/confiscations by our government against it's own citizens. People are realizing it and it just hits too close to home (like actually in your home!)

Has anyone read what has been going on in Mexico with the drug lords, and the headlines today on MSN? Can US gun laws etc?
Per the article, the Mex government and the US ATF have tracked over 90% of guns used by the cartels in Mex. to US gun shops and shows, most of them within miles of the border.
All the US gov. need do is declair a National Security issue because of the crime wave moving North, which it is, and ALL gun owners here will have more problems than we can count!!
Please read the article..

OR they can declare it a National Security issue and seal the border with Troops. WITH live ammunition and a green light to fire. As in shoot to kill.
