I've been working up loads for a 7mm-08 with this bullet. Chronos average 3011 fps, shoots an inch or better. I have not shot anything with it except paper. Does anyone have some "Deer" experience with this bullet? (130gr boat tails are what I have)

I had a buddy who had a shoulder operation recently so I loaded these over a light load of R19 in his 7RM for the 2008 season. He shot a nice 8pt whitetail and a doe with complete penetration....DRT on the doe. He also shot a cow elk this year with the same load. The shot was approx 200yds....tight behind the shoulder. At the shot the cow hunched up and stumbbled 20yds then crashed. Bullet made it to off-side hide hitting ribs on both sides.
I don't think you'll be disapointed with this tough little bullet.
Good luck,
Brett

I have used them out of a 7/08 on deer. Both the flat base and boat tail versions. I always had good luck with them. Admittedly, it was was a small sample, but I took a couple with the BT and one with the HotCor. No muss no fuss. I was really impressed with how well both versions shot on paper as well.
The 130 grain speer is a good whitetail bullet out of the 7mm/08.

Ditto to what the other 2 have said. I have used the 130 Speer in the 7-08AI and when i couldn't get my 7RSAUM to shoot i tried the Speer. Groups went to less than an inch consistently. I can't tell you how many deer my son and i have killed with them, but not one loss. Great bullet at a great price. Bill

This is what I was hoping to hear. With the velocity I am getting from the 22" barrel I feel like I have a short action .270. It is good to hear the bullet is not fragile.

The 130 Speer worked very well for me on deer with a less than full 7mm RM load. Its an excellent bullet.

Those are good velocities with a 22" barrel - what powder and load are you using if you don't mind sharing?

I've had one experience. 140lb 6 pointer broadside at 40 yds. hit 3" behind the shoulder crease. He ran 50 yds and piled up with no blood that I could find, but I heard him crash so I didn't give it the ole bowhunting look. He was shot with a .284 Win and 56 gr or 4350 out of a 21" barrel. NO EXIT.....thus no more for me

The 130 gr BT version is my "go to" bullet in my Rem Model 7. Like yours, my gun shoots <1 MOA with stiff loads of Re-15 or IMR4320. It is absolutely lethal on our Texas whitetails--I've shot several bucks and a boatload of cull does. My best buck ever, 161 5/8 gross, dropped with one shot. Last fall, I took the little rifle to California and shot 2 blacktails (one nets B&C) at 280 and 140 yds.
Now, many many other rifle/bullet combos would perform just as well. But for me, the Rem Model 7 with the Speer 130BT is the cat's meow!
I was hoarding when hoarding wasn't cool.

Starting to sound like I may have a pretty good load/rifle combo for NC/WV whitetail.

in the 700 in 7/08 42.0g of imr 4895 with the 130g BT is unreal accurate. Drops deer in their tracks out to 300-325 in our experience.

The Speer 130gr HotCor is my favorite bullet in my 7-08, although I'm currently trying out the Nosler 120gr BT.

The table didn't cut an paste very well from this web site http://www.rathcoombe.net/sci-tech/ballistics/methods.htmlbut it shows the 130 Speer BTSP should work comparibly to many other 7mm bullets used on deer. I have some of the Speers and they shoot good, like every bullet I have tried in my 7mm-08, but I haven't shot any critters with this particular bullet. 2 years ago, 7mm BR rifle, 130 Flat base IIRC, definitely Speer, and 200yd running doe, dropped running, MV about 2670 fps.
Years back another do about same range, 7/08, Sierra 130 SSP pistol bullet, dead quick...lung shot....
Nothing wrong and 130s get 3k or better, the BTSP is a great pick for a 7/08 sized round on deer sized game IMHO.

I have been using that 130 gr. Speer FB and to a lesser extent the boattail since they first came out...I have used them in the 7x57 mostly, but some in the 284...I cannot imagine a better deer bullet, they just work on deer size game, end of story...

Used the flat base in a M88 .284, for a couple of seasons. Worked great on the smallish blacktails I dumped with it. If I ran a 7-08, it or the Hornaday 139 would probably be my go to bullets for than size game.

I have used the speer 130 for years in both the 708 and even 7stw with perfect satisfaction, on whitetail, muledeer, and antelope. They do almost 3300 from the 7saum with Viht 550. In the 708 I've used mostly 760, H414, and Varget. The flat base has been most accurate for me in two different STWs, but I buy what my local guy has on the shelf and have used the BT as well with no problems. Last price paid was about 28 bucks a box.
