thats going to interfere with the shot? \:\) That my friends is an old wives tale. 4 inches of barrel is the length of my pocket knife and can't make any difference in the real world..
Be that as it may. By the same logic, this little discussion:
Wife: Did you do the dishes? You: No. Wife: Sweep the floor? You: No. Wife: Why not? Only takes 5 minutes!
You have to admit: She is right. Doing so would be suicide of course, because we all know how long those "Its just 5 minutes - Joblists" are. 12 such jobs are 1 full hour.
Back to gun length. 4" on a 42" rifle are say 10%. May not be much on one item, but +/- 10% on all equipment get into it.
To me, any rifle longer than 1 m (39") needs to file for justification.
I also battle constantly about the "office 10%" of my body, that I do not want to lug up the mountains.
Ray, in the swamps around here, where vines and creepers grab at everything, less really is more. A little guide gun gets snagged often enough, and a nice 26 inch barreled bolt would be worse. YMMV.

..I think all I have is "tight cover" to hunt in some times... One place in Maine...if you hold the rifle at arms length you can't see the end of the barrel...

I hunt the national forests in northern Wisconsin with these. They are all more interesting than most stuff in the woods these days and sometimes elicit conversations with the other hunters I run across because of their uniqueness.
