I am fortunate enough to have some of the new woodleigh 35 cal protected point bullets. Previously they have only made round nose 358 cal bullets. So I thought I would put up some pics. Being based in Australia and having most of our firearm and ammunition imported it is great to have these quality bullets locally made and available at a competitive cost. They are available in 225, 250 and 275gn models. The 275 make me smile, by my reckoning they should be able to be sent down range at 2350-2400 fps from a 350 rem mag or 35 whelan or even more fun could be had with a 358 norma mag.

Here they are lightest to heaviest L to R loaded in a 350 rem mag case that works through my ruger M77. They all seat at the canular. You can see how much room they use in this short case. I am not too worried about the 275gn taking up too much space as the powder charge reduces with bullet weight increasing.

Here they are all lined up L to R; 225 PP, 250gn PP, 250 RN, 275 PP and far right is one of the 286gn 9.3 cal bullets I resized to 35 cal.
The numbers for these new bullets are
225gn SD .251 BC .372
250gn SD .279 BC .400
275gn SD .307 BC .450

So now off to the range when the weather cools down enough to work on some reloads. It has been over 40 degrees celcius for a week now and shooting is the last thing on our minds the best was 45 deg last friday. I would love to run them over a chronograph and I can get a chrony F1 for a good price. Are they a good product that will give reliable results?

I use the 225 RN PP in my .350 mag. Great bullet. Very good accuracy in my Rem Mod seven custom shop rifle. I like using 60.0 Gr of R15.

droopy, welcome to the campfire.

I like the look of those bullets. I took Woodleigh 250 gr RN's to Africa in my .35 Whelen, and used the same loads later that year on two caribou. Everything I shot with them died... grin.

I will be very interested to know how the PP's expand compared to RN's. If anything, the RN's expand a bit too much, though they do hold their weight very well in the process. Please post some bullet pics after you smack some critters with them.

I wish we could get Woodleigh bullets as well as you all can. I even wish I could trade you Noslers or something for them... grin. Damned import/export laws...!

Would you please describe in some detail the process you use to resize? I resize Hornady's 286gr 9.3 interlock bullets. But I'm interested to know your resizing technique - with any comments on the results good or bad.

Here's a pic of an unsized bullet on the left along with my resized ones on the right - slimmed down to a hair under .358". The cutaways are 35Whelen and 350WSM (35 Sambar if you prefer) at operational COALs.

Welcome to the campfire as well, droopy that's one heck of a great first post. Those 275's would be great in the 35 whelen any idea how well they would hold up at 358 Norma speeds around 2500-2600fps. The 310 gr RN is rated to work best at 1800-2200 fps but the Protected Points in other calibers have a higher velocity limit.
