I hear ya about the 6.5-20x. Tried that and it was simply awesome in a few applications. But on a woodsbumming rifle it just kills it. I think on a designated sage rat HMR, that scope would be the cats azz though.

that's interesting, Ruger has a fireing pin overtravel stop and state right in the owners manual that it is safe to dry fire their rimfires. i dry fire mine all the time.

I looked at mine 'cause I'd dry fired it some while working on the trigger. No signs of any damage. So yeah, that firing pin overtravel must be working. I managed to mess up a Contender one time. Stupid me, all I'd have had to do is move the selector to centerfire. Tom

For what possible reason would you want more than 10 rounds in a bolt-action .22 Rifle? Anything more and it has to be designed to hang from the bottom of the rifle, ruining the lines an carrying comfort of the 77/22.

Is there any after market mags that hold more?? As I posted, Shooter's Ridge makes a very nice 25 round mag for the 17 and 22 Mag rimfires... it is double stack so it doesn't pertrude as much as 25 round mags in 10/22s.. it is about half that length... as far as the question why would someone want more capacity? Well if you are walking and shooting sage rats at target of opportunity, a couple of 25 round mags, means having to stop less to reload... and also is a lot easier to carry... I have 2 of these mags now, and would like to pick up about 3 more... they are nicely made and run under 20.00 in price.....
