Good photo, guys! Nothing like red plaid, 99's and a dead deer.

I got my first 99 deer 42 years ago, and have since taken prairie dogs, one coyote, whitetails, mule deer and one elk with 99's from .22 High-Power to .358 Winchester. They work!

John,

Yes, I like old school when it comes to deer hunting. The only thing missing is my Stormy Kromer. Actually, I got a 700 that needs some duty this fall. I might take it your way in MT come Oct if I draw a combo tag, and don't get deployed.

Jeff

Guys, please tell me you were wearing some kind of boot that laced up to your knee, with long wool socks sticking above the tops... smile
That pic, and the early winter lack of foliage, is a cool combo...

Mostly coyotes, antelope, mule deer and one Canadian wolf (no pictures the camera died on me) using tang sighted Savages. I hunt with an F in 22HP, a trio of the original 250-3000s, a couple of Gs in .300 and a B and C in .303. No bull elk as of yet. Been holding out for a good one. Past up a few in Canada last year. When I shot the wolf my guide said to me "there probably aren't many hunters that've killed wolves with a Savage 99". My response to him was, I bet your wrong.

About 20 deer, a coyote, a couple foxes, a possum, and a tree that tried to save a nice buck by jumping in front of his chest. Didn't matter to my trusty 99, as the bullet plowed right through the tree and still killed the deer. It was a very lucky shot, but lord knows I deserve a little luck once in a while.

All said, the Savage 99 is a genius of a rifle. Although no longer produced, it remains highly revered, as it was the foundation from which Arthur Savage built one of America's great gun companies. >> (Jon Y. Wolfe) <<

Two black bear, moose, deer, coyote, hundreds of ghogs and lots of assorted vermin using 308R and 300 eg. I would have taken my 308R on an alaskan dall sheep hunt but, I couldn't stand the thought of damage to it even though the coolness factor was great.

I started using cast bullets for hunting in my .300 G in 1977 and have taken several deer along with numerous squirrels. My .250-3000 EG's diet was Speer 100 grain for one deer.

One Nevada pronghorn twenty years ago with a 99E in .308. Now I have a 99F in .300, hunted with it once, and hope to draw a tag this year.
