The rifle I am thinken about is a Montana 84M in .257 Roberts Ackley Improved. Maybe 100gr TSX @ 3200fps?
What rifle would you go with?
What about a 85gr TSX @ 32-3300fps or 120gr TSX @ 3000fps, if you study into it and feel the Kimber don't offer you enough length to do the 257AI

What do you all think about down loading 270wsm? Could maybe buy a box of 110gr tsx and a lite load of maybe H380 maybe 3000fps?

I think I'd just use a 260,708,or 308 for that task.

For lower recoil and a shorter, lighter rifle that will be easier for your wife to shoulder, shoot, handle and carry, take a look at the Ruger compact in the 260 Rem or 7mm/08.
Regardless of the chambering, the 16.5" barreled Ruger compacts will retain 95.5% velocity of the 24" barrels, using either the same factory ammo or identical reloads.

You sold your wife's rifle and you're still alive to tell the tale???
Why not just call the .257 Wby hers? Those things don't hardly kick at all and she'll have one heck of a rifle.

The more I think on this, you should get kicked square in the jimmy for selling the 280 in the first place. <grin>

SKane, I know the taxidemist's wife shot a nice 8point buck with it so she wanted to keep it. So I traded out taxidermey work for the gun...... I was stupid....

So, at least you have a wife that likes to hunt, Randy. That is a good thing!

Hell if I know Randy.
It seems to work pretty well. I tried some 110 AB's this morning. Intial load shot great at 400 yards.
