Anybody have one of these? What are your impressions/experiences? The specs. look pretty good.

ps
Before someone starts with the American made argument, The engines are made in Tennessee and the trucks in Mississippi. I looked at the window sticker of a Ford Explorer Sport Trac and the engine was made in Germany and the transmission in FRANCE.

I don't think Toyota has the upper hand in this horse race. Toyota knows this and is in the process in bringing out their next generation that should be something to behold. Maybe even hybrid powered. I've coon fingered both vehicles in my quest to replace my Z-71 extended cab. I really liked the Nissan over the Toyota on several fronts. By the way, what's up with the brakes on the Toyota. They really need improvement. Namely 4 wheel discs.

Toyota makes the most reliable and durable (there is a destinction) vehicles in the world in my opinion. But as far as full sized trucks go, they just seem to fall a bit short of the mark. I never did consider the T100 when it came out. And Tundra is about 7/8's of everthing I want. Power, size, room, etc....

Back to reliable and durable. My Z-71 was reliable. It never left me stranded and generally did all that I asked. It was a 1997 and had (still has) the best ride of any full sized 4x4 that I have ever driven. Including my new Crew Cab, which I'll get to in a minute. Durability was a problem. Things just wore out slowly and sometimes not so slowly. The brakes had to be redone about every 25,000 miles. I went through a couple of sets of rotors, also. Two transmissions, a rear-end, air conditioning, alternator, front-end, rear engine seal leak. I estimate that I have put about $10,000 in repairs on this truck over all. Did I mention it rode well?

After 7 years it was time to retire the beast. I was determined to get a Toyota or the Titan. Even considered the new F-150. Just couldn't get too excited about that one. I ended up getting a GMC Z-71 1500 Crew Cab. Why after all of that?

The truck had everthing that I wanted. Size, power, style, excellent dealership, can tow behind my RV, and a few other things including the price. I resolved my durablility problem by getting the 7 yr extended warranty included in the $28,503 that I paid for it. Less that I could get the same equipted Toyota or Titan for. Basically, I put the responsibility back on GMC to keep my truck in running condition.

There is something to be said about not having your vehicle in the shop you say. Well you are right about that. However, when I have a vehicle being repaired, I drive my Toyota RAV 4. It never breaks.

I own a '98 Tacoma since new, and my girlfriend of 8 years owns a '02 Tundra. I must say the Tundra is the nicest riding vehicle I have ever ridden in (and my father has owned several Cadillacs). However, her Tundra still has stock highway tires and that will probably go away when she upgrades to all-terrain. My wish is for Toyota to put a diesel engine in the Tundra. If I ever spend 30K on a truck, it will be a diesel. I must admit the Titan looks badass.

Longbob, it's a good thing you don't live here in the NW driving your RAV 4. The RAV 4 is big with the dike community. I'd say 8 out 10 that I drive by have a stocky chick with a butch haircut. That's no lie.

It sounds like it's time for you guys to get a real truck. Two years ago I made the step up after several years of 1/2 ton trucks, and I will never go back.

Except for one problem the above picture isn't a DODGE

I am very impressed with the Titan and Nissan did it's home work on this truck from fetureas and componets to the fit and finish nice going. And who else in the Auto industry is equiping their 4x4 rides with DANA 44's fron and rear and the decent to very good Rancho 9000 shocks?those would be pricey upgrades on the aftermarket circuit. It's a nice truck and certainly worth a good look. I say that even as a Dodge guy. If they made that truck with a quaility turbo diesel it would be a near no brainer.

Supertrucker,

HUH! In all honesty, the Toyota is at the very bottom of my list. You were making a joke, right?

AFP, I am a Toyota slut. But you won't see me driving a RAV4. I've taken my Tacoma with 31.5" tires and no lift over things the guys with fool size trucks with lifts and 38" tires could'nt do.

Geez AFP, I have a Dodge, and it's kinda' like a truck, you know, hauls stuff, uses lots of gas, makes me cool. What's your point?

BTW, I bought the truck ('01 Dakota Xcab 4X4) about 3 years ago. I was so proud of it when I drove it to work. A 'gal' at the office (possibly mentioned above ie; dyke, etc.) commented on how "cute" it was. Spread around the company like wildfire. Talk about a self-esteem robber...

yep a rav-4 or izuzu amigo, geo tracker, honda crv, element - calling those your truck will often put you in a "friend of Dorthy" category pretty quick where I come from

You can't be serious when you say Toyota is at the bottom of your list. They are tops in owner satisfaction and reliability. My Tundra is the smoothest, quietest, best vehicle I've ever driven. Anyone who says they aren't the best either has their head in the sand, are jealous of a good vehicle, or have never rode in/driven one. Do your homework and you'll have to admit toyota has their act together.

Read last months consumer report on trucks. They test the Titan, Tundra, Ford, Chevy and Dodge. Dodge not surprisingly came in dead last. The titan with 305 hp, blew the doors off of the 345 hp hemi. Dodge, Ford and Chevy still living in the stone age, running pushrod engines. Look at the Tundra and Titan 32 valve V8, dual overhead cams. They kick butt. The Tundra came in first, Ford second, Titan third, Chevy 4th and Dodge, dead last. Check it out. Consumer is the one to listen to. They don't accept money or advertising. They just call a spade a spade when testing produces. Motor Trend, Car and drive, Road and track aren't good reports to listen to compared to Consumer Report.
