All the old Detroit Diesel engines (4-53, 6-71, 8-92, etc) are two strokes, but the have the usual crankcase filled with oil like 4 stoke engines. Oil is not mixed into the fuel like two stroke boat/motorcycle engines.

I don't know about the huge engine above. I assume it's a dry sump design.

thats an interesting twist. all that oil must slow that crank down good. so it is a "2 stroke" only in the sense that it fires every stroke but lubrication is a 4 stroke design. no oil injected? dry sump would free up a bunch of horsepower in something that big but i guess it doesn't really need it!

Well, looking at the pictures of the crank case, it does possibly look like it has some sort of dry sump system. But, at only 102 rpm, I doubt that windage is going to be much of a horsepower drain.

Everybody talks about how they like the Titan, how well it is rated, how well it is built etc.. But nobody here has admitted to buying one. That was the problem I had when looking at the Titan. Everybody says they are great trucks, but few truck people are buying them. Most people want the Titan's to be out a few more years to see how they hold up in the real world & to also see how their re-sale value is. I just couldn't buy one. Truck owners are very brand loyal. I recently bought a new Z-71 1/2 crew cab, that I am very happy with. Do your self a favor & look at the chevy 1/2 ton crew cabs.

I was just driving behind a Toy T100 the other day. It looked in good shape ,but oh my god the bed shook and jiggled over every pavement separation strip. Did not look like quality to me!! My 2000 silverado has been excellent. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I believe that is indeed the case. When Ford redesigned the F150 in 92 I waited until 93 to buy one for my wife. It seems a lot of us do the wait-and-see routine. One of the reasons I ask about the Titan is my son-in-law is a general manager for a large firm here and can get me the "family" price on several brands. They don't have a Ford store but do have Nissan, Chevy & Dodge. I'm familiar enough with Chevy & Dodge but ignorant on the Nissans.
