When I debuted my 7 WSM at the range I knew at first trigger pull that I did not like it. Worked up a good load for it and gave it to my son in law.
Went back to my 280 Remington. Thus far I have owned 7 BR, 7mm08, 7mm08 Improved, 280 Remington, 280 Rem Improved, 7 SAUM, 7 WSM, 7 Rem Mag & 7 Weatherby. So far, none have replaced my standard 280's. The others are all gone, my 280's remain.

280 is never a bad choice. With all due respect to Mark D - the 280 is the real 30-06 improved. It a progression thing - first came the 06, then the 270, then the 280 - it's obviously way mo' betterer than all the predecessors

Dober, the TRUE king of progression would be the 7 WSM, which TRULY kicks azz in sales of rifles and dies... grin

Bump
Got H4350, RL17, and RL22 on hand. I've had good luck with H1000 in my 300WM; I'll try that and/or 7828 if those first ones don't perk.

R-17 gave me the best combo of accuracy and speed in my 7 WSM with 162 SSTs and A-Max's. And I tried most all the others mentioned here.

What Powder should I try with a 7MM WSM with a 24" BBl, 1 in 9 twist using a 160 Pill? Got one coming and don't have a clue.
Thanks,
Dee RETUMBO.

Recently picked up a 7 WSM. Fireforming brass and playing with a couple different powders, MagPro shows alot of promise as did H4350 under a 140 Sierra.
Waiting till I get my McEdge to do any further shooting.

I'd be sure to try some Rl25.
The 280 Remington is overbore.
The 7 Rem Mag is over bore.

I've seen crazy claims for speeds... though not from any of the actual powder makers!
My goal is to get north of 3000 fps with 160/162's at a repeatable 3/4 MOA. That'll do from a very light rifle. Fingers crossed.

How about the 140-grain TTSX bullets and RL-17? Anyone try this combo for the 7mm WSM?

IMR 7828ssc in 140 & 160 grain bullets worked very well for me with Winchester magnum primers.

Thanks,
Dee H4350 or MagPro
