Interesting...what do these critters hunt? what is their natural instinct for?
Do they make good housedogs too?

......... Questions above answered...
....Teddy Roosevelt used his Rat Terriers for Cougar, and Bear. They've been used for boar as well. Today they are used mostly for squirrel, sometimes coon, and rabbit ,although they are to fast for rabbit in my opinion, either sending the rabbit to hole, or catching it outright. These terriers have the nose from a Beagle, the speed from a whippet, and are extremely intelligent. Easy to train, they will chase to tree any game that will run from them. There's a fellow here in middle Georgia who trained his to trail wounded deer. He makes $$ every deer season taking him out on a leash and tracking down lost deer for hunters. He adverises in Georgia Outdoor News..
....I live in Atlanta GA....P.M. me your phone # if interested, and I'll give you a call.

...You're right on that!Female #3 isn't the only one either. I'm no pro photographer by any means, and the pups as you see them in the photos at three weeks had been on all fours just a few days. Every one of them ,when I brought them out to my 'back forty', started hunting by instinct. Decker's have need only to be taught the quarry you want them to go after.
....So far as the question on whether they make good house dogs, Georgie (Jinger's mom) is lying at my left foot as I write this. I've had dogs all my life, and I've never had a better in home companion than my Decker Rat terriers. My son John has one of Georgie's pups, now grown, living with him in his apartment (actually a duplex, not larger than an apt.),and she does fine there too. I know I must sound like I'm selling them, well I am, but every word I've said about these dogs they've earned. They are the greatest companion/hunting dogs I've ever owned.Phone me and I'll tell you about Jinger's 'dad', Bo Jingle! You won't believe what that dog could do, and I'm still a learning amature trainer. Bo taught me more than I taught him, the smartest dog I've ever known!

i saw a guy in FL who used a jack russle as a pig dog. the pig wouldnt run from the jack cuz he was so small but he would just stand there and circle while the jack tried to bite his ass. it gave him time to run in and dispatch the pig.

...The Jack Russell and Decker are similar dogs. The decker is a bit larger, and not as hyper as Jacks can be in small quarters.Chewing furniture for example, is seldom ever a problem with Decker pups. Also the decker can cover more ground by virtue of being proportioned with longer legs, but they do work close to thier handlers.

...All three males have been spoken for, they are in reserve. None have been paid for, so things could change, but they are on hold pending final transfer arrangements..... If there are changes in status on these dogs I'll note it here first...

I have a Rat that is 17 years old now. Completely blind and deaf but still top dog and still scratches off after he takes a wizz. I got him from a coon ass fellow that had a pack to hunt coons. My ex took our Jack Russel when we divorced and this was my choice. These are great little dogs and the hair is shorter finer that Jack's so not as much hair on furniture and carpets.

Let's find these little poochies a home. I had a Jack and if we're doing it again, I'd go Decker.

....Not so far these days. Male #3 is being shipped to Alaska.
.....With Deckers the females are usualy especialy coveted for the ability to bear more of thier strain. From what I've come to know, only about 200 Decker strain Rat Terriers are in the world.
