I recently acquired a sizable amount of 130 gr and 150 gr .277 Nosler Partition bullets for use in my .270 WSM. It's a stock Winchester model 70 stainless classic, and I've been shooting 140 gr Nosler Accubonds with a charge of H4831SC which it likes.

I tried to use the search function to find any pertinent info, but didn't locate any. So, if at all possible would any of you be willing to share your experiences, or load data with these particular weight Partitions in the 270 WSM?

That said, I tried Magpro, and IMR 4350 in working up the Accubond load, but my rifle didn't care for either of those.

Any help would be appreciated.

I've had good results with 150 NPs and 60 grains of H4831sc, using WW brass and WLRM primers.

Thanks for your input....kind of what I'm afraid of though. I seem to be running low on H4831sc and was hoping to find some alternatives that would work and still be able to find the powder.....

What velocity does that load give for you?

I haven't chronographed it yet but that's next. You didn't ask, but I also got good results with 140 NPs and R-22, I have some 150s loaded with R-22 that I haven't shot yet but I'm going to do that soon, I'll let you know how they shoot.

I recently purchased a four boxes of the disontinued nosler partition gold bullets, two of the boxes were moly coated, I put them in my tumbler and removed the moly. I workded up a load using Ramshot magnum powder and winchester large rifle mag primers, loading data from Ramshot shows a starting load of 64 gr and a max load of 72 gr, noslers reloading data shows a max of 69 gr, noslers data is more reliable, I got up to 69.5 gr but I also got sticky bolt lift, backed off to 68.3 gr and I am getting 3/4 inch groups and 2980 fps. Tried RL 22 and got about the same accuracy but could not get more than 2900 fps.

I just started experimenting with 150 gr partitions yesterday. 68gr Magpro sparked by Fed 215 Match primers yielded an average of 3104fps. I can't yet comment on the accuracy because it looks like I have some scope issues to wrestle with.

Interesting load there 405....I tried Magpro with the 140 gr Accubond and ended up with a sticky bolt before I got near Max loads listed and accuracy was mediocre, in the 1.5" to 2" range.

Frogman43.......In my .270 Winchester model 70, I always hunted game using those Nosler 160 grain bullets. It is a semi-spitzer bullet and works great under 300 yards.

I currently have 500 130grn, and 1,000 150grn Nosler Partitions on hand and want to try to find some good starting points for them.

Haven't tried Partitions, but my WSM likes H4831sc with 130gr Accubonds and 7828 with 140's.

I've pretty well settled on Retumbo for my .270 WSM and 150 Partitions. As I recall, 70 grs. is max. and I've gone to 69.5 grs. In the past, I used WLRM primers but I'm gonna start working with Fed. GM 215 mag. primers to see if I get slightly better accuracy. I got about 3100+ with the Retumbo load. I've tried Magpro and got about 3100 with a Sierra bullet and 68.5 grs. I've also used IMR-7828 ssc with a 150 Partition and found I got 3184 fps with 65.5 grs. of powder with a WLRM primer. I'm currently trying to work up a load with the 150 North Fork ( my really preferred bullet), and hope to come up with something as soon as NF gets off their butt and sends me my order. Gooad luck. 270 WSM with 130gr bullet:
IMR 4350 57.5grs
Varget 51grs

For the 140gr Barnes TSX:
MagPro 65grs

Note: Both of the 130gr loads are accurate and on the lower end of the spectrum. I'm sure there is another sweet spot load on the higher end if you want to test it.

The 140gr load is sub MOA but its what I've developed for a Barnes TSX. Accurate's load range for a Hornady BTSP is:
66.8grs @ 2,985 to 74.2grs @ 3,275

Thanks all! I picked up some RL22 today, and have some Magpro left over from before. I'll also try IMR 4350 as I have about 6 pounds on hand of that, but that goes into my .300 Win Mag.

I have some H4350 on hand too. Lots of recipes, but powder acquistion is spotty at best right now.

Not yet, I'm still messing around trying to see which loads are most accurate. Finally went to the range today, and it looks like the 150s shoot best in my rifle. Using 62 grains of R-22, I shot this group (only loaded three), under 3/4":



According to the manual, this should be well over 3,100, but we'll see.

I have had good luck with conventional IMR 7828 with 150 Nosler Partitions in my .270 WSM. I cannot match the velocities that can be had with factory rounds, but factory rounds cannot match my accuracy. Lyman goes to 65 grains with a 150 grain bullet. I go a half grain higher and get around 3025 fps out of 24 inch barrelled Sako. Three shot groups in the 2's happens often enough I know it is not a fluke. F215M's spark it. Winchester brass contains it.

I ran some loads through mine last week of R-22 and 61 grains gave me my best group....

This is a littl peripheral, but in the past three years I have run 8 different Winchester and Federal .270 WSM factory loads through two different rifles, a Nosler Modle 48 and a Winchester Model 70 Classic. In each rifle, the Federal load with the 150-grain Nosler Partition was the best-shooting, by a noticeable margin. Three-shot groups in both rifles averaged 3/4" or less, at quite high velocities.

Obviously there's no way to duplicate the factory load, but 150 Partitions WILL shoot in the .270 WSM.

I use 62.5 gr. of IMR 4350 behind 130 gr. NPT for 3250 fps and 3/4 " groups out of my Kimber classic.
