Think I'll work up some 'reduced' loads for my .454 Casull- I have a good supply of 240, 250, and 260 gr. bullets, of FA, Hornady, and cast variety.

I would like to keep velocity around 1200-1400 fps- something manageable for a lot of practice shooting, but adequate for hunting deer-size stuff. I have plenty of full-power loads on hand, if I decide to use it on elk, moose, etc.

Anybody have anything they like? For powders, I will probably use Bullseye, Unique, Blue Dot, etc., that I already have on hand. Brass and primers are no problem.

45 colt load

I was shooting some loads the other day, and 21.8gr of A2400 under a 250gr Horn XTP shot very well and to the same point of impact as the 300gr Horn XTP Mag over 29 gr of H110. I haven't chronoed either of those loads, but I'm guessing the 250gr XTP to be somewhere in the 1,275 to 1,350 fps range out of the my 6" Freedom Arms revolver.

I think I will try a starting load of 14 gr. of Unique behind a FA 240 gr. FA HP, as per the FA loading data.

I am trying to find more Hornady XTP 250 grainers, as my supply is very low. Thought I had a bunch on hand, guess I shot most of them up thru my .45 LC's!!
