I can only say that I have Nikon VSD that has served me extremely well on a Remington 870 shooting heavy 3 1/2" loads.

I like the Burris Fast Fire2 reflex style sight. I have the regular Fast Fire on an 1187SM and just purchased the FF2 for an 870SM. I'm going with the Marlin 336 base instead of the weaver on the 870 for the lower mount and much nicer look of the 336 mount.
I prefer the reflex style sights as they seem to be much faster, lighter, and more FOV.

IF I were to mount glass on my shotgun the Burris Fast Fire II would be my choice.

I have never shot a truglo but after using eotechs on ar-15's, then the burris speedbead/fastfire on shotguns. I'd have to say the burris is head and shoulders above the rest as far as weight and size, I smoked 7 deer running in front of hounds this year with a speedbead on a benelli m2. Now I am buying another for an older sbe. It solves alot of poi issues with shotguns and incredibly fast.

MNds, If you read enough reviews on the TGs or talk to enough people that use them, they often have a pretty high failure rate. They do have a newer model reflex that's pretty pricey, but I would go with the FF before the TG.
TG makes great FO sights for shotguns and bows, but their scopes and red dots are more along tasco lines.

The only cheap dot sight I've heard anything good about is the Bushnell. I don't care for cheap optics due to past experiences, but there are alot of folks that swear by the Bushnell red dots.
I had a cheapie cost me a heck of a buck years ago and I've never went that route again. My bud John had a cheap BSA red dot fail just before he flew to Texas on a hunt. He was scrambling to find another red dot and get to the range before he left. That cheap red dot had given him a couple years of flawless service, then it failed at a bad time.
TG does have a lifetime wtty, so I guess you can send it back if it breaks. Hopefuly that doesn't happen when a 12" swinger is strutting at 30yds.

You could just put the turkey's head inbetween the dots  My bud had a similar thing happen a few months back on one of the NC Star reflex cheapos. He Mounted it and headed off to the range only to find the dot had no adjustment and his POI was about 3 feet low. Turkey season is many months away, you could save 10 or 20 bucks here and there and by an optic that will last a lifetime. You'll be happier on down the road. Check out www.archerytalk.com Register and keep an eye on the classifieds section. Guys are selling barely used high dollar bows on that site frequently for a huge savings. I bought a Mathews LX on there a few years back and see some really good deals on nice archery equipment from time to time. loder

Nothing to do with a red dot, but I bought a bow from a guy at archerytalk. It was excatly what the guy said it was, looks great and shoots great.

lol.... apparently wont work for me. for some reason, I can't hit crap with a shotgun. I'm not too good with one. The red dot I have now works great! put about 150 rounds through it and shes working like a beauty. I was using 2 3/4" 8 shot shells and getting 3-4 bb's on a paper plate at 100 yards. otherwise if someone throws a can in the air i can hit it with 1 out of 10 shots.

Try 50, with a very good super-full choke, Hevi-shot, and some work on patterning.

And, 75 yards turkey kills with shotguns are a whole helluva lot more like the 500+ deer kills with .270s being "held at the top of the back", and 400+ inch elk taken on public land every year................... BS. Killed more birds, and been in on the kills of more birds, as well as associated with them that regularly take their fill (and then some..... some years), than you can fathom given the flocks down here. 75 yards, simply ain't done by shotguns on anything approaching a regular basis. Esp. when you're gonna tell me it's with a factory choke tube and standard production shells, right? What's the ammo he shoots? Choke make and constriction? Shotgun? Scope or irons?

I shot mine with Hevi-Shot too. #5 in a 20ga. At 30 steps. A good call and some patients will get you a lot farther than a magic pellet and a 3 1/2" 12ga w/ Hevi-shot at 75 will. You can only get lucky so many times.
I shot one last year at 7 steps...could have killed it with a sling shot.
Long shots sound cool to your buddies, but calling 'em in close is where the fun is at...for me anyway.
Come back and tell me how close you got him to you, not how far away shot him.

I shot my only turkey at 15 yards. That was fun! He was pecking at my decoy. does anyone know why they peck at decoys sometimes?

That is a good start. Fun at that range aren't they?
I use a Primos Jelly Head choke and a double bead on the barrel. I toyed with the red dot idea, but I now keep my equipment as light as possible. It is much eaiser to move around and hunt that way. I don't carry a vest anymore either. Just a slate call, a diaphram call, a cousion for my butt, and a shotgun.

I bought my first call last season..... a slate. I called a jake in to about 20 yards but didn't take the shot. I got greedy for the toms. Since my first one was big I wanted another one.

Mr. Sniper - If You and Your Uncle are trying to kill turkey's @ 75 yds. with a shot gun, then I srongly suggest that either both of You learn more about the sportsmanship of humanely killing the animal or take up another sport.
Listen to the advise of others very experianced in the sport, aknowledge and practice their advise.
75 yds. is way too far in the Turkey Woods,Period. I don't care if You have the latest 3-1/2" ultimagsuperfullforceingconedheavyshotedtriplexloadedscopedfastestmeanestbestpattering10ga. in the woods.

What does one gain by overextending proven and acceptable methods? I've seen turkeys killed @ 75 yds. with a shotgun, but it is not a killing shot and you will wound more than kill. If one chooses to make this a practice, then I would not be hunting around this person. Not only is it bad practice, it is also dangerous to other hunters, let alone, giving a bad name to the sport. Some hunters can be their own worst enemy, giving a negative image to the sport and ammo for the antis.
You, Yourself even admitted that one turkey you killed was not edible because it was hit in the legs & breast. Mistakes happen, but the killing shot is in the head/neck and you will not get this pattern @ 75yds.

If 100 yard turkey shots are what you are looking for id get a over under citori 3.5 and top it with a nightforce so you can dial in the range,you will need it., you can use those nice little see thru mounts to, that will only add to the sniper look of your shotgun
mnds go on over to oldgobbler.com and ask those fellas about 100 yard turkey shots. They will recomend shotgun shells that cost more per shell then your red dot!

That wasn't me. And I have "learned" from threads that I will not be making much more than 50 yard shots.

50 yds. is a long ways in the turkey woods.Brush will break up your on paper pattern very quick. 35 yds. is a better range for the expierianced hunter/caller. Practice,Pracrice,Practice. Put some diligent work into it. Become a hunter who is confident with his abilities. Equipment will only make it sound better. Believe Me, I carry a 10ga.w/triplex loads.

but over an open field.. then can i reach out and get 50yards? If you actually pattern your loads, find one appropriate, practice, and have a clue............ maybe. That at least one of those won't happen, answers the question, though.

at 50 yards with cheap ammo and a cheap choke, with a unpatterned gun you would be lucky to kill 1 out of 10 turkeys you shoot at. Now if you buy a good indian creek choke, shoot hevi 6s, or better yet nitros,and pattern your gun from 10 yards out to 50 yards, THEN you might have a shot at ethicly killing a turkey.
If youve learned anything, then patterning or sighting in your gun is very important, if you want to have a succesfull hunt.

Pattern it until you find a combo that gives a good even pattern at 40 yards. 100 hits in a 10 inch circle with shot between 4-6 should be your goal. The factory bead works fine. Once you have a setup that will kill em at 40 than learn to call by listening to real birds either in person or sound files. Then get in the woods and learn how to hunt em.

lol, what a thread! being from Utah i am not much of a turkey hunter. we are on a draw here and i have only pulled two tags.
I shoot my goose gun at them, a Browning gold 10 ga, 28" barrel and a pattern master choke. it shoots hevishot #6 and #2's well. while patterning i found i had no buisness shooting past 45 yards with it, o it would score a few hits in the head at 60, but not enough to trust it.(actually, federal #4's in plain lead pattern best for me)
so i guess my question is, is 45 and under the normal lethal range with most guns? i have thought about getting a 32" barrel for it, dunno how much better it would be tho. i just use a FO bead.
