Have wanted a Pre-64 M70 30-06 FWT for quite a while, and particularly one that was made around the time I was.

I located one right at my 48th B-day, and it just so happens it was made the month after I was born in 1961. Equally fortuitous, David Walter put an NIB Pre-64 M70 Fwt McMillan Edge for sale on the Classifieds the same day I ordered the rifle.

Anyway, cobbled it all together (bedding, lapping rings, mounting 6x36 Leupold, blah, blah) this weekend. Shoots great and goes 7lbs 6oz's scoped with sling and five rounds:

Very nice, Brad. It should work quite well on elk.

Good job.

I've got a pre-64 in 270 that shoots great, but weighs a ton. It spends all it's time in the safe.

Nice set-up! I am thinking that when I get too old and tired to fool around with every new bullet, powder and cartridge that comes along, I will buy a McMillan for my customized 1961 .30-06 and go back to shooting everything with it, just as I did when I could not afford to do anything else.

Great looking rifle...it doesn't get much better than that. Let's see a couple more pictures please. What are you going to run thru her?

Brad very cool I am a couple of years older and am thinking along those lines my self. My gun collection is not much but all I am lacking is one of the pre 64's and I will have a Winchester from each of the different time frames very nice.

Nicely done, Brad!
Heck though, you could almost buy a new one and have it be as old as you are...you're just a pup! grin
Some of us would be trying to buy flints and powder horns or whatever, if we got a rifle as old as we are... grin

Looks great Brad. I was "this" close to ordering an Edge for my 270 fwt, but passed.

That's about as good as a rifle gets.

Did you replace the factory alloy bottom metal work on this rifle?

that really looks nice.....I am often tempted to put a Mac on my pre-64 featherweight, but there are too many memories tied up in the scratches my father, and then I, have put on her over the last 40 years.

but still.....

I ran into Brad this afternoon. He had the rifle along so of course I had to get my grubby paws on it.

Talk about a sweet handling rifle. Very quick to the shoulder.
