The Howa, and Burris is not my cup of tea but it sould work fine for your needs.....

The Howa Burris combo you found wouldn't make a bad combonation.

I would suggest going into a local shop and take a look at the prices from some of the major companies. Remington, Winchester, Weatherby, Tikka, Howa, Savage, and the like will all give you a good foundation to hunt on. Remember to get good glass like the Burris or similar to top it off with and you are set.

Look for a caliber that can give you lots of options incase you want to start hunting different game and need versitility. 270, 7mm-08, 308, 30-06, 270wsm, 300wsm, 7mm mag. Any deer you shoot with one of these won't be able to tell the difference from one or the other.

Stear clear of the 710.

has anybody had any experiences withthe rifles mentioned?

All the rifles mentioned have a reputation of performance that can not be disputed. Also at Ruger to that list can't believe I forgot my handle.

when i shoot 5 rounds it makes a whoole circle and on the seventh shot it hits the bulls eye
i have had bad experiences with ruger rifles
i suppose they can rebarrel it but dont want to go through hassle
its alredy rusted a bit

I have, that's why I mentioned the Remington Model 700.

I have experience with most of them. The 700 is a good rifle and hard to go wrong with. I think the best buy is the Weatherby Vanguard. I have 2 Vanguards and both are accurate the 257 is very accurate. The other one is 300 WBY and it's not a bug holer but very consistent. Get a Vanguard in 270 or 06 and put a Leupold on it and your good to go.

Howa M1500, Weatherby Vanguard (base model), Tikka T3, the Remy SPS, will all probably be within your price range depending on where you go.

As to the caliber? Can`t go wrong with a 270 Win. or `06. However if you can handle more recoil when using near max and max loadings, the 7mm Rem mag is an excellent flat shooting choice.

If you like or prefer a shorter action with a little less rifle weight, the 7mm/08, the 308 would also make excellent choices.

Regardless of your prior in-accuracy experience, don`t discount the newer Ruger Hawkeyes, assuming you can find one within your price point. Ruger has eliminated many in not all of the past complaining issues with accuracy and their triggers.

The other day, I handled a sweet new 20" barreled Ruger Ultra lite in a 270 Win. A very nice handling piece.

a winchester 70 in 25-06
and a remington 700 in 270

the 25-06 might be the best all around caliber for deer sized critters and it shoots a bit flatter than the other 2 with deer size bullets

brand wise i'd go with a savage to stay within your price range

The 270 Weatherby mag doesn't come in any weatherby rifles in your price range you would have to step up to a Mark V for that. The 257 is a great round that can take anything you will probably go after. The ammo is about double what 270 and 30-06 ammo is though so keep that in mind. In the vanguard look at the synthetic blued or synthetic stainless model for your price range they will come in 257 & 300 weathery mags and then all the normal round everyone else offers. The wood sporter versions can get a little heavy I have a 300 wby vanguard that tips the scale at 10# 3oz ready to hunt needless to say it isn't my walking around gun.

How many types of ammo have you tried in your Ruger? Did you try floating the barrel or tuning the trigger? I picked the right ammo, floated the barrel and tuned the trigger and my ruger is an easy sub-moa it just takes a little work.

I would go Leupold over Burris any day. 257 ammo runs $50 a box for the Hornady loads.

You can do a 25-06 but not the 240 in the Vanguard, the only Roy's are 257 and 300.

try a weather model in a 25-06 its savage model 116 i have a model 16 270wsm thats is one hell of a gun 3 shots 11/16 group 100 yards and carbou deer don't stand long after tricker is squeze

If your budget is $600 toal, I'd go with a Weatherby Vanguard Synthetic with blued steel and a Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40 with Ballistic Plex reticle. Mine would be chambered in .25-06...yours could be in .25-06, .270 or 7mm-08 and I think you'd be happy.

If your budget is $600 for just the rifle, I'd go with the Vanguard Sage Country in .25-06 or .270 and still top it with the Burris.

Couldn't go wrong here. Savage is a quality rifle with a reputation for accuracy, and 25-06 is awesome cartridge.

Problems w/ 240 Weatherby:

lack of availability in rifles
lack of availability in ammo
cost of brass

I strongly considered a 240 when I first started building my 257 Ackley Improved which is basically a tame 25-06 and am VERY glad I went w/ the quarter-bore. If I were to revisit a super-high-speed 6mm I'd likely do a 6mm Rem Ackley Improved or a 6mm-06, the latter of which has identical case capacity to the Weatherby mag.

There was a great article in Precision Shooting recently about a guy who put together this identical rig... Vangard Synthetic w/ Burris FFII 3-9x40mm ballistic plex. Great rig and a fantastic price.

If you're talking about your first rifle here I'd do a 30-06 which can literally do anything on this continent reasonably well. If you already have something heavier I'd go 25-06, personally.

They're both awesome cartridges... 270 Win too... I just don't care much for the bullet availability of the 270, personally.
