I am planning on black bear hunting next month in NE Oregon where I live. My question is, I am using Horn 139 SP and Nosler 140 PTs. Both shoot to POI. My rifle is a customized 93 Mauser, loads are between 2500 to 2600 fps. Which bullet would be best at my pressure limit of the 93 Mauser? 58gscott

Both will be fine at that velocity and typical range for blackies.........I'd prefer the partition though, just because I've used them a lot and they just plain work.

I'm a huge fan of the Interlock, but in this case the Part would be the way I'd go... or a 175 gr RN Interlock... but you didn't mention that one wink .

efw, My new barrel doesn't like anything over 150gr or under 139. Max shots where I'll carry the 7x57 is 200yrds, anything farther and I'll carry my 308 Norma Mag. Wasn't sure of good expansion with the PT but was leaning towards it. 58gscott

I'd venture to say that any of the major manufacturers hunting bullets would work just fine, given your conditions. Pick the one that shoots the best groups and go hunting.

Either will do you just fine.

58gscott,

The front end of Nosler Partitions features a very soft lead alloy, much softer than that of the core of most conventional lead-cored bullets. This is the reason they expand so easily.

That said, just about any 139-150 grain big game bullet on the market will work fine at those velocities.

Thanks for all of your input! I appreciate all of your knowledge, and experience, where I am lacking. This forum has educated me on lots of topics related to hunting, this is a great place to come to learn. Thanks again! 58gscott
