signature of the range officer for an unofficial comp between me and another guy. thats a thin barreled steyr shooting hornady soft points. you should see what the thing does with Amax and sierras. i pulled that last one high and left. she will actually shoot better. i dont paper it much, mostly we shoot stale saltines of the berm at 220 yards.

Oh, makes sense on the sigs now. I thought you had to buy signed targets or something...
Ain't never got into any kind of comp between folks ever on my end, other than regulated matches where the score tells all at the end.

A couple groups from my 20.5" 308. Basic Rem 700 varmint cut back. The rifle shoots better than I do.

I thought long barrels were more accurate, because they got you closer to the target?!
(nice shooting guys!)

264 with a 20" barrel.......hmm sounds like a 6.5 Rem Mag. in the little vent ribbed Remington rifle from the 70's.

In the past armies issued Infantry rifles with long barrels. 29" usually. Calvary, Artillery, Engineers, got carbines. Usually 22".
The longer barrels had more effectively accurate open "iron" sites due to the increased distance between the front and rear sights. And, of course, the increased bullet muzzle velocity.
Plus the extra 7" of barrels made it easier to bayonet the enemy if he was defending himself with a bayonet attached to a carbine.
