Not sure if anyone can help me find out any information on my Dad's model 1893SC or not. I have been looking for days now and not getting anywhere. The fellow that my dad bought the gun from years ago said that Marlin made a run of just 500 of these rifles. He said that they were stamped model 1893SC prior to being released as the model 93SC. I think the gun was made around 1907 based on the serial number 430XXX. The gun is in a 30-30 caliber. Any information would be appreciated.

This is all I have on your rifle and the info comes from an older traders guide.
1893SC / 93SC, Same as the model 93 except with a 20 inch barrel and 5 shot magazine, made in 30-30 and 32 Special.
Before 1915 was designated 1893SC, after that as 93SC. No production numbers are given and it was valued only slightly higher than the standard model. They also broke them down into 3 versions, with a saddle ring, Bullseye without saddle ring, and Sporting carbine, no further elaboration.

According to Brophy's book, there were 4,086 1893 carbines made between 1893 and 1906. Does it have a carbine or rifle butt, as they also made a rifle with a 20" barrel. Does it have a front barrel band, 1/2 or full magazine, is it marked SC? In 1905 the model was changed to model 93 on the top tang. There are no serial number listings for years after 1906. 93's had numbers with or without a A B C or D prefix The model SC was introduced in 1923 and had a hard rubber buttplate, ivory bear front sight, and a 2/3 magazine. This info is all from Brophy's book.

....and that's all I know.
