If you had your choice would you chose a Jarrett or a McWorther rifle. Heard lots of pros and cons on the Jarrett but nothing but pros on the McWorther

i've got friends with both. completely different guns in my opinion. they both shoot great. the jarrets are relatively heavy, while mcwhorter loves the lighter weight guns with fluted barrels/bolts, bolt handles, etc. Price difference b/t the two is substantial too. My friend's jarret, delivered with a swaro scope and 500 rds of 300Jarret ammo was 2x what you pay for a mcwhorter plus comparable scope plus ammo in a more mainstream caliber. in my opinion, it is purely a matter of personal preference - if i were going to decide b/t the two I'd go visit both of them and decide for yourself.

You get what ya pays for my friend and sometimes the more expensive rifle doesn't cut the mustard.

I can remember a time years back when Marks Banser and Clarence Hammonds were displaying their rifles almost next to each other at a big show. Both had 400 yard targets displayed and the differences between the two were laughable.

The Banser rifle was double the cost of a Hammonds rifle and Mr. Banser was pissed to say the least at being placed next to Mr. Hammonds.

3700 bucks for any rifle (McWorther) on a 700 action is steep in my book. There are other 'smiths that charge more and some that charge less.

2 grand and up will get you one fine shooting rifle if you do your homework.

I think Jarrett rifles are not worth the $$ he's charging!!!

I have owned several of each. I had 2 300 Jarretts and a Jarrett in 280 AI. I currently own 3 McWhorters. Jarretts & McWhorters are both high quality builds. With either one accuracy was as good as it is possible to get out of a hunting rifle. They are easy to load for. For me I prefer the McWhorters because their style suits me better and their quality is just as good if not better and they are much less $$$ than a Jarrett. I eventually sold my Jarretts and stuck with my McWhorters!! PM me if you have any other questions about either. 163bc

From an interested buyer, I'd go with Tim McWorther for a rifle.
I just can't belly up to Jarrett's prices.

I will have to side with 163bc. I have put my hands on many and shot them as well. I know Tim personally and marvel at what he does. Recently, I watched Allan shoot a 1.5" group at 600 yards with a Tim built 300 ultra. I would not have believed it if I did not see it. Oh Yeah...That was with a 7lb hunting rifle with a 12x scope.

+1 Ive shot several McWhorter rifle from a 6BR all the way up to a .338 Lapua and all having outstanding. I personally cant see myself ever not owning a McWhorter. My 6BR from TIm is amazing!!!

That might have something to do with the fact that Mr.Hammonds is one of the best gunsmiths anywhere.I thought Banser was a stock maker.

McWhorter for sure, of those 2,but Mr. Karl Feldkamp is my gunsmith.I find it hard to think that anyone can offer a BETTER LOOKING AND SHOOTING rifle than Karl.He's an ABSOLUTE PLEASURE to deal,discuss and do business with.He's now also my friend.

+2 for Karl Feldkamp...NO WAY I would spend $5,000+ on a McWhorter based on a factory action! Thats just crazy!

Kirby Allen, and Nate Dagely are also great smiths that won't rip you off on the price!

I looked on the site. I do not see any 5k rifles that are built on factory actions. I have a McWhorter built on a factory Remington that will litterally shoot one whole. I have two built on custom actions that do not shoot any better.(Really don't think it is possible to shoot any better)

Theres many more for sale like those...and they usually use a Stiller on the others, which we all know aren't a very expensive action...

I have found McWhorters prices to be very fair for what you get. Of the 3 I own all are on 700 actions and did't cost anywhere near 5k?? I'd suggest a personal phone call to Alan or Tim to make sure you get exactly what you want and go over price. I am convinced McWhorters is building some of the best custom rifles available today. McWhorter stocks hundreds of custom/match grade barrels and McMillan stocks so they can get a custom out the door faster than just about any other custom rifle builder. 163bc

I have owned 3 Jarrett rifles and there several dozen of them in my hunting club. I have never seen a Jarette rifle that would not shoot and feed. I owned a 250AI windwalker that weighed under 6.5 pounds with a 2.5x8 Leupold scope that was a sub half minute gun. I have never seen a McWhorter rifle. My last few rifles were put together by John Lewis.

I'm another that refuses to pay much over $2000 for a custom rifle. I can have everything I want for that. E
