Hi all,
First Savage 99 and first post here, I have wanted one of these ever since I shot a friends back in high school.
I recently acquired this one in .300 Savage for a song knowing it had some issues, the stock is cracked but fixable and there is an odd configuration of 4 drilled and tapped holes, one one left top of the receiver and 3 on the left side, 2 above the round count hole and 1 in the middle.
Can anyone tell me what these might have been used for? Some kind of scope mount or did someone just go wild with a D&T?
Thanks.

Some kind of old side scope mount.

Kind of kills it's collectors value, but should affect it's ability to provide first class venison. smile

Anyone know were I can get one?

You are not going to believe this but, e-bay comes through, I just looked and there it was, it also shows a screw that looks like it goes into that extra hole.

I have a couple shooters with that sidemount on them there really high quality, they work great, back in the days when rifles were "TOOLS" these were quite an improvement with a weaver scope in them when the old eyes started to go.Don

Two things:

1) The hole on the top is correct...

2) Be careful. There were two different hole patterns. Check before you buy...!!! (see picture below)

Damn, I thought I had it licked.
Well I only had to give $15.00 for a 50/50 shot at it.

Mike,

Are there three hole patterns? I know they come with and without the hole in the upper side of the receiver, but is there more than one pattern for the holes on the side? confused

George, the two that I had both had the hole on the top but each had different side hole patterns. If there is another that does not have the top hole then yes there would be 3 different ones. I have never had one without the top hole though...!!!
